Babies: 6 - 9 Months

pacifiers

So, how important is it to move up to a 6 month size pacifier? I don't have any 6 month ones yet, and she is still using her smaller ones. Does it have any effect on tooth development? Or does it not really matter?

  • I'm interested in the responses here.  Our LO only uses a pacifier at night for bed, and would only ever use those green ones that you get at the hospital.  I recently went to buy a couple more and I saw they have ones for 6 months and got those.  But LO did not like those ones.  When I feel them, the "older" ones are harder and other ones are softer.  He prefers the softer ones.  But I think since he only uses them to get to sleep for naps and at night that it shouldn't matter.

  • We use the MAM brand and we moved up to the 6 month stage about a month ago. They are longer and the shape is different. The sizes are made to fit the changing shape of your LO's mouth and to let their teeth grow in properly. The shield is larger on each stage as well to prevent LO from getting the entire paci in their mouth as they get older. My DS can almost put an entire NB paci in his mouth and he isn't a big baby at all.
