Pity party here.
Two weeks ago dd's fish that she got two Christmases ago died. Then her favorite pet chicken died.
Over the weekend ds went outside to feed the chickens and found his favorite chicken, the one he handraised as a day-old chick, dead.
We have an old dog who is suffering. I just called the vet and made an appointment to have her euthanized on Wednesday. I would do it tomorrow, but we already have plans for the kids to visit their great-grandparents tomorrow who are in a nursing home and going downhill quickly. This is very likely the last time they will ever see their great-grandmother alive. I'll be somewhat surprised if the dog makes it to Wednesday.
We started off the year with the sudden and traumatic death of a child in our extended family and that really shook them up. Now we're ending the year on the same note.
Dd's 4th birthday is coming up soon and she's adamant that she's not having a birthday this year. She says she wants to stay a tiny 3 year old girl forever, she's never getting older because she doesn't want to die.
Re: My poor kids.
Ugh, that's heartbreaking (and I can't get over that your dd is almost 4 already). I'm so sorry -- the loss of pets is so devastating.

No, Mabel and Flo both got snatched by a fox last fall. This time it was Junebug and Nathalie.
That is so hard.
