Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Starting Fruits

Someone said to me that when I start giving pureed fruits to LO that she will no longer want veggies. I know that probably is not true for all babies, but I wanted to see if you guys could share your experiences.

Currently she gets cereal in the mornings and a veggie at night. Now that she has tried all the veggies I figure we would start trying the fruits (obviously only trying a new one every 3/4days). Anyway, would you continue giving cereal in the morning and give a fruit in instead of a veggie at night? Or would you give a fruit in the morning instead of cereal and continue giving veggies at night?

Re: Starting Fruits

  • The first food Chloe had was applesauce and that didn't stop her from devouring her veggies.  She loves anything we feed her.  If you've ever tasted the food you'd notice that most of the veggies are sweeter than the fruits, so the theory that they won't eat veggies because fruits are sweeter just doesn't make sense to me.

At 6 months Chloe was getting fruit mixed with cereal (no formula or water, just the fruit mixed with the formula) for lunch and a veggie mixed with cereal for dinner.

  • DS still eats his veggies after starting fruits. He stopped liking cereal, so I went to purees 3 times a day. I mixed up what I served when mainly because I used whatever I had. I like to mix fruits with the veggies- apples and pears go with almost everything.

  • Not true at all. J has fruit/oatmeal in the AM and veggie/oatmel in the PM. He loves them all.
  • Not true for us. DS actually prefers veggies to fruit. I usually have to mix the fruit into cereal because he acts like it is too sour/tart for him. He loves his veggies though!
