Thank you notes?

We had a holiday party/open house last night at our new house. About a dozen people brought us something (bottle of wine to gift baskets, etc). I thanked them when I opened the gift as well as when they left. Do you think I should still send them a thank you note in the mail? WWYD?

Re: Thank you notes?

  • I have always gone by the idea that if you open a gift in front of someone and thank them then and there, no thank you note necessary.  But if you open a gift without them present and cannot thank them specifically after you see the gift, then a note is needed.  Although a second thank you never hurts either.

  • That is a tough one.  Probably something consummable at a party, I would not.  But if there were any other type gifts, I probably would.

  • Nah. I think thank you in person is good enough- especially for a food/drink gift.
