Congestion? Do you all sleep in chair with your LO??

My lo is congested, especially at night... He can't breathe when put in his crib after about 45 minutes. We end up sleeping upright in a chair with him... Am I the only one? What do you do to get you baby to sleep? (and u too)  I just am getting so tired of this and wondering if this is the norm... I have tried everything else.. TIA!

  • we just dealt with congestion.  i put a pillow under DD's crib mattress to elevate it just a bit, had a cool mist humidifier going (crane tear drop) and bought the vicks pediatric plug ins.  also, before bed, i used the little noses saline drops and bulb syringe to get out as much as i could!...or as much as she'd let me.  Lol.

Baby Vicks, steam shower, humidifier, saline wipes.

I'm sorry LO isn't feeling well. DD has been pretty stuffed up, but the above have taken care of it enough that she can sleep.

This. DS has had some pretty bad congestion but I  never considered sleeping in a chair with him (doesn't sound all that enjoyable for either of us). I do saline drops and suction before bed, vicks on the chest, humidifier and also give him a nice warm bath to loosen it all up. He does sleep pretty well with all that, but he was still coughing on and off.  It's the time of year, yuck.

  • Yes, I have done this a couple times. We have a comfy La-z-boy recliner and I wrap both arms around her, lean back and sleep as much as I can. She sleeps pretty well and never moves an inch. I know it's probably not the safest option - but sometimes I do what I gotta do to get by.

Our DD seems to ALWAYS be congested since she started going to daycare.  We just bought a Vicks Vaporizer to try (we've done the Humidifier, but that didn't help).

Good luck Momma.  We've been there.

All of this. I would never sleep in a chair with her.  That sounds awful.

  • We do baby vicks on the bottoms of her feet and cover them with socks (I don't know why this works, but it does) as well as on her chest.  A pillow under her mattress and a humidifier in her room.  It gets her to sleep pretty well and we get some sleep too :)

Good luck! I hate it when our babies are sick!

  • my DS is 20 lbs and the pedi said 1/4 tsp of mucinex every 4-6 hours for the congestion. You can do bulb suction and Little Noses saline for the mucus. Use a cool mist humidifier at night. You can try to raise one end of his bed, but for us it didn't work because he wiggles and ends up at the bottom anyway.

I have. If your child cannot breathe when lying flat and the only way is to sit up in a chair so you and LO can sleep, so be it.
  • Yes, well, the sofa!  I propped my head on the arm and she slept on my chest.

It wasn't ideal but we both got sleep.

  • Yes. We have a wrap around sofa- so I'll position myself in the corner (fully supported upright) and lay her on my chest. We've done this for congestion when steam, humidifier, nose freida, etc just aren't enough. It's also helped for ear infections when laying on her back has been dreadful.
