Transition to crib

Has anyone had any luck transitioning from the rock and play to the crib? Anyone have any tips or success stories? Im so nervous because this is the first night trying to have DD sleep in the crib in her room instead of the rock and play in our room.

Re: Transition to crib

  • Around 5 months we went from RnP/swing to the crib.

We just went for it - started on a Friday and by Sunday it was old news. We still had more wakeups then normal. But it had to be done.

What makes you nervous? Having her away or her not sleeping well?

I was nervous for both - but honestly - DH and I sleep SO much better as does DD now that she is in her room. I almost question why I fought to keep her in our room so long! We were not against CIO when we knew she was full. dry, ect. And followed Ferber. That took us 3 nights and now she gets up 1-2 times a night (if even that).

  • We transitioned from the Rock n Play to the Pack n Play at 4 months and it was a non-issue as far as I can remember. We actually just transitioned from the PnP to the crib this past week. She did great with it. I honestly think she was just ready and prefers the more comfortable mattress just like she preferred the extra space when we moved her out of the RnP.

If you want, you can start with naps and build up to nighttime just to get her used to it.

  • Im nervous about both. Last night started out ok but then turned into a disaster. She woke up after 3 and a half hours and would not stay asleep. Everytime I got her to sleep and put her in the crib she would wake up. After she was awake for 3 hours I gave up and put her in the RNP and she stayed asleep.

  • I would say that if you are going to do it - you fully do it. Otherwise she will learn that by staying up, or crying she will get her way.

We put a mattress in DDs room so I could lay up there and comfort her while she was in her crib (patting bottom, rubbing back) while also giving her alone time too - kept me from going crazy during late nights being able to lay down :)

It isnt easy thats for sure! We battled a 4am wakeup where DD wouldnt sleep. But she went back to it after realizing it was not time to get up for the day when we didnt let her out of her room. I SO wanted to give in to her swing a few times :) She then slept until 930

  • We are in this process... and it isn't going stellar. Once he hits that crib mattress, he wakes up and is not happy. He sleeps so soundly in the RNP, but we know that he is getting too big for it.

Good luck to you, I know it's not easy!!
