if your Christmas tree is NOT in your living room...

Where is it?

And do you then open presents (from you or Santa) in front of the tree or in front of the fire place?

We have no room in our living room for the tree, so we have always put it in the dining room, but we always open presents in the living room next to the fireplace since that is where Santa leaves them :)

I would really love to figure out a way to get the tree in the living room, but I don't think it's possible with the layout of doorways/traffic areas in there.

Re: if your Christmas tree is NOT in your living room...

  • It's in our "formal dining area", but we're not formal dining folks so it's my library.  We put it there because there's a big window facing the street and DH has this obsession with being able to see the tree in the window when you're in the yard.  This is our first year here, so I'm not sure where we'll open presents.  But if I had to guess we'll probably do it in the living room in front of the fire.  The library has hardwood floors and I don't enjoy the idea of sitting on them for the amount of time it will take Luke to get through all his gifts.

  • If you really want to get the tree in the living room, what about a table top tree? It wouldn't have to be little, maybe a 4 footer?
  • Our big tree is not in the living room it is in the library- which is the front room of the house. So, it is right in front of the front window.  We also have a small table top tree in the living room, right next to the fireplace.  We always open gifts in the living room.  Santa put his gifts laid out (not wrapped) in front of the fireplace/small tree. The family gifts to each other go under the big tree and we just bring them into the living room Christmas morning.
