is everyone giving their LOs peanut butter? our pedi now recommends waiting until 2yo. however, we have no food allergies in our family, and aside from milk/cheese/yogurt, DD isn't big on protein. thinking about trying some peanut butter.

We are a food-alergy free family, so we gave PB at a really young age. (maybe 10mos or so?) We started out with just nibbles of my PB&J sammies, but now he eats it on toast or crackers or his own PBJ sandwhiches. Just take it slow if you're worried- it will probably show up immediately if he's got an alergy. I keep childrens benedryl at home just in case.
Ds also had problems eating meats! He's just now coming along and will eat 10-15 bites of meat at dinner time. Some ways I snuck in meat was putting leftover chicken or pork in a quesadilla or coating it in crushed crackers. Oh, also Greek Yogurt has a good amount of protein too...
Some recipes that got Ds interested in meats were chicken pot pie, crockpot pork chops, jambolaya, meat balls- basically anything where the meat was coated with a sauce
The only thing we are holding off on is shell fish, (my mom is allergic).
Both mine love peanut butter on anything, even just a spoon. If you are concerned you can always try another nut spread, like an almond butter etc. Trader Joes has a great almond flax seed butter.
The AAP no longer recommends delaying peanut butter due to allergy concerns unless you have a reason (family history or something) to suspect an allergy. They basically started to think it was delaying such foods that was contributing to the rise in allergies.
This is what our physician said as well. I started giving them PB around 10-11 months. They have it multiple times/week and we have never had an issue.
Same goes for egg whites. They've been eating whole scrambled eggs since 7-8 months.
We started around 11 months. Here is what the AAP has to say about it:

Started giving PB at a year, never had an issue. LO eats it every once in a awhile, but not on a regular basis.
A kiss he will never forget- Disney World 2014
We started at 1 year. No reaction and she loves it!
This. Except sometimes twice a week. And he can eat an entire PB&J sandwich, crust and all.
Same for us. He loves PB!
Yup, they both eat it. They like peanuts even better than peanut butter. There isn't anything I won't give them at this point.
I'm a little confused about those saying that their kids ate it 30 times and then had a reaction. I've never heard of that before...
We waited until she was 2. We took peanut butter crackers with us to her 2 year wellness visit and she tried them at the doctor's office. I figured if she had a reaction her first time, at least they could help her.
I realize sometimes you can have allergy and have it not show up the very first time. It was mostly me being paranoid!
All of this but especially the bolded! We gave DS pesto many times before he had his allergic reaction (because of the pinenuts!)
And now he's highly allergic.
