XP: Gift for teachers or classroom gift?

DS has 6 classroom teachers (aides, ST, OT, etc.) in his public district preschool. I was planning just to to Target gift cards for each, but was wondering if a classroom gift or gift card would be a better idea. They are always asking the parents to donate wipes, kleenex, etc. already. Since I will be spending quite a bit on the teachers' gifts, it might make more sense to do a classroom gift, but didn't know if that is tacky at the holidays.WDYT?

  • Thats a good idea. Or if you have a halmark near you they have great teacher gifts too!!
  • I think something practical is good.  You could stock them up on whatever they're low on in the classroom.  I'm doing a big, huge cookie tray to put in the teachers' workroom.  All the adults in her school love DD and impact her daily, so I want to share with them all.  I'd steer clear of teacher ornaments, mug, notepads, etc.  Teachers get more of that than they could ever want or need.  Chocolate is nice, and most will love it, but some people are health conscious and end up giving it all away (my mom does this).

  • I wasn't sure about a classroom gift, but we're giving two gifts: a box of nice chocolates for all the teachers (DS has 5 in total) and a candle he picked out for his key worker. (I wasn't sure about a 'thing' gift, but he was insistant. At least it's disposable.)

  • I don't teach for presents. If someone wants to give a gift, I'll appreciate whatever it is.

School supplies would be an awesome gift for me. I would hope all teachers think that way.

What I do for my DSs daycare is make a big batch of snack mix and write it to the whole daycare. It's a small daycare, probably about 10 employees.

  • My DD"s PreK teachers actually ask for a classroom gift instead of gifts for them - they put up a wish list that has stuff from a lot of price ranges (gift cards to different places where they can buy things for the room to toys, etc).  I went in with 2 of hte other families that I have known for years and happen to be in class with and we got one of the more expensive toys that we didn't think anyone would buy on their own but we know the kids would love to have.  I am putting together a small basket of candy in addition for the teachers.  For daycare, I am just doing the candy.

  • Same exact boat as you!  In early Nov I sent a letter to the other parents of the 7 kids and we decided to all chip in so the main teacher gets a $50 gift card, assist, aids and therapist all get $25 ot $30.  We are doing Target as that store as everything...even food!  Can't go wrong with gift cards.  If I were in your shoes where you are doing gifts just from you, I would do a classroom gift as it gets way too expensive the other way.  They are there to teach and any little thing is appreciative...or it should be anyway!
