I don't think I could ever bring myself to name our child Luna...it just isn't my style. Some people love it, though! Do you have any middle names picked out to go with it?
Especially after the Harry Potter character I associate the name with a loopy person.
Yup! As much as I loved her character I would automatically see that name and think of Harry Potter
i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
Eh...It's ok. I have trouble getting "lunatic" out of my head when I see this name. I don't know if it would necessarily be teased on the playground or anything, but it's still not the best association.
I will probably be in the minority on this one, but I love Luna. It is one of my guilty pleasure names. I admit that when I hear it I don't automatically think of an adult woman--I think of a little girl first--but I still think it would age much better than many of the trendy names out there today. I would probably love it if my doctor's name was Luna! Haha
I love it, it's actually my #1 girl name at the moment. The HP association doesn't bother me one bit, if anything it makes me like it more. I also don't see why the meaning is a bad thing. "Flora" is flower but it's still a lovely, acceptable name.
TTC 10/11. IUI 2/12. BFP 3/8/12. 4/26/12 missed mc. RE consult 5/17/12. IVF #1 ER 7/13/12 53R, 41M ICSIed, 32F, 8 5d, 6 6d blasts - all PGD/frozen. PGD results 1 normal M and 1 normal F, 1 maybe M. FET 9/6, transferred 1 F embie. Beta 9/15 BFN. FET#2 planned for 11/2012 put off until 2013. Surprise BFP 11/21/12!! My son was born on 7/24/13!
FET 4/28/2015 - Transferred 1 M embie. 5/6/15 BFP!
I would not use this name personally for my child, because it just doesn't fit my family, but I do like it. It reminds me of a beautiful Andrea Bocelli song.
BTW, in response to PP, I would not name my child Moon either. But I personally think Luna gives a different vibe than Moon does. It is more feminine, and sounds more like a legitimate name.
And to answer your questions, I do think the name works just as well on an adult (in fact, moreso). I would also go to a doctor named Luna, and if she could also do my taxes while I wait for my bloodwork results, I'd be happy to let her do them!
I personally love the name, I told my husband before we got pregnant that i was going to name my little girl luna. He didn't say much at the time, but now that we are pregnant he's completely against it.
If your spouse isn't against the name, I say go for it, it's a beautiful name.

Oh man.
See...that's why I asked.

Agreed.
I think names like Summer, Ivy, Rose are all nouns. This is just a noun in another language.

My dog's name is Luna. When she's being a brat we call her Lunatic!
Gah!
This reminds me of a funny story. When I was little, new neighbors moved in and they have a very high fence. There was a rumor going around the neighborhood that they had two kids locked up in the yard. They were always yelling at "Rosie and Trevor" but we never saw any kids. Then, one day we figured out that Rosie was their Basset Hound and Trevor was their Lab.

Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
I think it ages just fine and I would absolutely hire someone with this name to be my doctor or do my taxes.
The only Luna I know of is my friend's niece. She's somewhere in the 10-12 year old age range.
I have always liked it, although the first association in my head is definitely Loony Lovegood now.
I would think it was awesome if my doctor or accountant was named Luna.
I did name my cat this.

I would never NOT choose a DR based upon a first name, ever. They did not name themselves.
I actually think of the Luna bar. I don't really care for the name much, just not my tastes.

All of this!
Hmmm. We're plain old white people.

Ha! We could name her brother Cliff!!
