A couple of months ago I posted that DH and I were trying to decide if we should do one more IUI or move on to IVF. We went ahead with IUI#3 and I got the ugly BFN Thursday morning, great way to start the day huh?

My RE does not see the point in doing another IUI and frankly I don't either. I asked about moving on to an IUI with injects but he did not seem very hopeful about it and with our limited sperm, does not want to waste any samples. So we are moving on to IVF and had our consult yesterday for a January cycle. I go back on the 23rd to get my calendar and the nurse will order the meds for me. I've never been so anxious to start a cycle before now and if you have any words of advice I would love to hear them!

I do have one question for anyone who has done IVF or had a consult. I asked my RE about bed rest after the ET  because I like to keep my boss up to date on any time off (my boss is amazing and totally supportive of any time I need to take off) but my RE told me that is not necessary and I can go back to work that day. I see his logic behind it but I am curious if anyone has been told this by your RE.

I don't know a lot about IVF, but I have heard of most ladies having a day or two of bed rest. For me, psychologically, I'd feel better resting the next day, and if your boss is supportive, I'd just do it.

I just had my consult on Thursday and was told that I'd be on couch/bed rest for 1 day and to just take it easy for the next few days.  I think it probably depends on the type of work that you do though.  If it's something really strenuous then you definitely shouldn't be going back to work that day.

The day of the retrieval, I was put under anesthesia so I was told to go home and take it easy that day but to resume normal life after that. For the transfer, I was told to take it easy that day but no bed rest. My RE said there is little evidence that bed rest "works." First IVF, I was off work for day of retrieval and the day after, day of the transfer and the day after and got a BFN. 1st FET, I just took it easy the day of the transfer and went back to work the next day and still BFN. I didn't feel any better or worse in terms of the transfer with either decision.

Exactly all of this! I'm so sorry to hear about your BFN...but I wish you the best of luck with your IVF cycle!

Bed rest after ET is definitely a RE/clinic preference.  My RE told tells me no bed rest either, I worked last time and I happen to have the following day off next week after my FET.  I just wouldnt do anything straining/lifting/ laundry ))   I was really tired after the ER last time and I did have the day of and the day after ER off...I'm glad because the day after I slept a LOT....I figured maybe it was from the anesthesia.

Thanks ladies! I work in law enforcement so I think I will be taking that day off. I'm also pretty sure my boss would send me home if I showed up anyway!

Haven't done IVF but wanted to say good luck!  I'm sorry about that BFN... not a great way to start a day, at all!

Sorry about the BFN. I will be having my first IVF cycle in January too. I got my calendar this past Thursday and they have me resting for 4 days after the transfer.  My NP recommended not working and just hanging out at home. Good luck!

I had my IVF consult a few weeks ago, and will do my first IVF cycle January/February.  My doc said rest the day of ER, and "house arrest" day of and day after ET--so not bed rest, just don't be too active.

I am also stating my IVF cycle around the 23rd with my meds starting shortly after with a hopefully embryo transfer the first of February! Good luck to you!
