I know every doc is sooo different. According to my doc, modified bedrest means you can cook a quick meal for yourself or run a quick errand, but try to stay lying down with your feet up as much as possible.
For me it meant as much time with my feet elevated above my heart as possible. I could get up for a few short periods each day, but for each I had to follow it up with twice as long resting (ie: 20 mins making lunch, followed by a min of 40 mins in bed).
I limit stairs, I make quick microwave meals - less than 10 minutes of standing - I don't make complete meals from scratch, etc.
It depends what you are on bedrest for. I don't sit up too much as sititng is the same as standing with a bad cervix. I'm not sure if that is why you are on bedrest.
I take a quick shower every 4 days!!!!!! not everyday.
my dr said for 6 hours through the day I'm off my feet.
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Expecting again after IVF
Mine said no target shopping - If I could be lying, be lying, otherwise sitting and getting up every hour or so to get some water, use the bathroom, ect. No lifting, no laundry, no vacuum.
And, I had to take my pressure - if it started getting high, then it was side lying immediately for a half hour.
Re: What exactly is "Modified Bed Rest"?
I think every OB differs -- you should ask yours exactly what is meant.
For mine it means sit on your hind-end all day. You can still cook dinner and eat at the table if it's quick.
Honestly though -- I would ask your OB and make sure you tell her your activites to see if any of them (like going to Target) are restricted.
Ditto - every OB seems to differ on this.

I'm on self imposed modified bed rest. I don't go to targetl, that is too much walking around.
