VBAC classes in Bellevue/Seattle -- experiences/recommendations please.

Hi everyone,

I'm due in February and hoping to do a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarian), so my husband and I are looking for VBAC classes in the Bellevue or Seattle area we can attend before our baby's due. We've read about the ones New Moon Birth and Big Belly Services offer but we were hoping to see if maybe we have more options? Has anyone attended VBAC classes here? We would really appreciate it if you could share your experiences and recommendations. :)

 Much thanks!!

  • Either of those would probably be awesome.  Sharon Muza of New Moon Birth is a leader for ICAN.  The local chapter has an e-mail list on yahoo I believe.  You could ask for suggestions there or from your care provider.  Good luck!

  • I took the New Moon class and it was very, very good.  I would definitely recommend it.

My attempted VBAC was not a good experience, in spite of the class.  My uterus ruptured.  Thankfully, both my baby and I are fine.  Just be aware that even though the risk is small, it CAN happen to you.  It happened to me and I thank God that my baby and I were lucky enough to survive the experience.

  • Thanks so much, kathzoo!

Thanks so much, coribecca! So glad to hear you and your baby came out of that experience okay. I'm actually so scared of that happening with me, too! Did you have to do a repeat caesarian then?

  • Yes, It was a repeat c-section after a little over 31 hours of labor.  My kids were close together (18 months) and my son was 10 lbs 3 oz.  I think both of those factors played a role in the rupture.  I wish now that I would have insisted on a late u/s to see how big he was, but I had no idea he was going to be so big.  My daughter was 7 lbs 11 oz, so I didn't really expect my son to be gargantuan.

  • Wow! Well, i'm glad to see that you and your little one are both doing great now! Your children are so adorable! <3

  • Oh btw, we found a comprehensive 4-week childbirth class series with Great Starts and even if we initially wanted to do a class that's specific to VBAC, after researching, we're thinking we may need something a little more conprehensive than the usual 1-day classes they offer as VBAC specific. Has anyone taken classes at Great Starts? You guys mind sharing your experiences?
