I locked my kid in the car

I was that mom today at the daycare.

I was driving the Camry today, and the clicker thingy is notoriously sensitive.  I put Mia in her seat, threw my bag over into the front passenger side, then shut her door and walked around to the driver side to find all the doors locked.  (I did hear a beep, but just assumed it was another car getting unlocked nearby)

I ran inside before panicking too much and the daycare receptionist was so awesome as usual and called DH, who was only 10 minutes away.  Yes, there was some crying (mostly me, not Mia).

I am now on my second glass of wine. I just can't believe I did that.

Oh gosh! Glad your dh was close by. I'm terrified of doing this so I keep my keys in my pocket at all times. If I don't have pockets I keep it in my hand.

You definitely deserve a drink! So happy your dh was close by! My car is sensitive too, so I actually put the keys on the roof when I am putting the kids in so I don't lock them in the car, and I can't drive off without them!

I have come very close to doing that and my DH was nowhere near at the time.  Thank goodness yours was.

I did it when Jack was 18 months old and I was 9 months pregnant with Ethan...DH was an hour away at work and it was a warm day, so I had to call 911.  My cell phone was in the car too, so I couldn't even call my friend that I was supposed to meet for lunch because I had no idea what her number was (luckily I was at home, car in the garage, so it hadn't sat out in the sun and gotten super hot yet).  I was a blubbering mess when the fire dept got there!!  Sorry that happened to you, I NEVER allow all the doors to be shut if the keys are not in my hand, I'm very careful to roll a window down if I want to shut the door and walk around, etc.  So it will probably never happen to you again!

How scary!  I am so thankful the weather was nice and he was so close.  I will not make that mistake again!

omg!  I'm so sorry lady!  but yay that dh was nearby!  this has been one of my biggest fears since before I had kids, happened to a friend of mine and so I have never let the children ever hold the keys and the keys are always either in my hand or pocket (except that time that they were in the house and I locked us out of the house but.....)

Ugh. So sorry. Been there, done that.  Except it happened in our garage and my spare set of keys was in my purse in my car!!! It was so horrible, moreso for me than for Hailey. I called AAA and they were there in less than 10 minutes.  Lesson learned, I always, always, always make sure I have my keys after getting H in the car. I either hold them in my hand or put them on the roof of the car like previous posters.  Don't beat yourself up!  It happens to the best of us. Have a big glass of wine or a bottle!
