BFing and teething

Sorry for all the BFing questions lately!  I know it's common for teething to be a factor in a nursing strike but why?  Nate was so out of sorts last night and clearly in a lot of pain with teething (and over tired) and he absolutely refused to nurse.  Screaming, crying, the whole 9 yards.  I offered him a bottle of EBM instead (he hadn't had any milk for over 7 hours at that point) and he sucked down 7 ounces in no time and was asleep within minutes.  I of course pumped afterward.

I looked up stuff online and know this is common but I'm just curious why he would take a bottle but not want to nurse (he has always preferred nursing over a bottle).  Anybody know?

My guess is that it may be a texture issue. DS may just like the feel of the bottle's nipple on his gums when he is teething. My DD will suck on her sippy cup straws and spouts like crazy when she's teething, so much so that it's hard to get her to eat anything because she doesn't want to put the cup down.

I hope it gets better soon.
