Austin Babies

Dr visit update

Good news- the NP is awesome and has lots of infertility experience, both professionally and personally, so she was open to trying clomid next month and understood my concerns.

Plan: do FSH level and ultrasound on day 3 of my cycle and then start clomid if there are no cysts

Bad news- DH has to get a SA. Not terrible news, I just know that will be like pulling teeth and I don't know how much it would cost. Bigger concern is that I work for seton and I don't know if even the bloodwork and ultrasound for monitoring will be covered.

So, wish me luck trying to get DH to cooperate tmr morning so I can drop off the specimen. ;)

Re: Dr visit update

  • glad you had a good appointment!

just tell your DH you'll do all the work to get it and he should be on board! ;-)

  • Haha! I was thinking about that! I don't know what he will say... I told him I would drop it off for him so it should be minimal effort on his part.

If we ever get to this point I imagine myself doing a sexy little dance for DH, just so I can be involved and help out *somehow*.  LOLZ

I'm glad they're being proactive with you and I'm glad your appt went well!

  • Yay for good news and being proactive! I'm pretty sure a SA is only like $80 out of pocket. Will they not run your benefits beforehand and tell you if the u/s will be covered?

  • It was tough for me to get dh to do his SA as well but he got over it.  We had our first SA done through CPL but apparently they do a crappy job.  If you can get a referral to Austin IVF they do a much better job and give you more accurate results-- we paid out of pocket and it was $100.

I hadn't thought about that. I guess I can ask, but I'll be doing it regardless, so it won't change that.

They are sending us to cpl. Hopefully it will be good enough to show if there is a problem or not. I'm anxious to get it done because they won't start the clomid unless his SA is back and I should be getting my period in a little over a week (if my body cooperates.) So I want it all done and ready to go, you know?
  • I hear ya-- get him in soon.  DH's SA at CPL showed he had much bigger problems than the one done at AUstin IVF.  So when I say AUstin IVF is more accurate I think it shows you have fewer problems than CPL would.  BUT... your DH won't have any so this is a moot point Smile

Be sure to get ultrasounds on clomid-- I just had a friend hyperstimulate and develop 8 follies on the lowest dose!!  Could you imagine what would have happened if they had been having sex.

This is the problem we had as well. So maybe just don't stress yourself out too much if it does come back abnormal.

  • Now that you say that, I do remember that they did the same thing for my friend that I mentioned in the post the other day. They had her DH do a SA before they started any meds. His came back normal, hope yours does too!

  • Glad to here your visit went well!  I work for Seton too and have the EPN plan.  I found that as long as labs go through seton or brack you will not get a bill.  I just alway ask my doc to send the specimen through seton or ask them to give me an order and go to a seton draw site.   My OB is at WPIH as well and she never had a problem with this.  Happy to answer other questions if you have them. • I had an appointment today that sounds a lot like yours!  I too have to talk my hubs into the SA before they will start me on clomid.  The only difference is she said it looks like my right side is trying to ovulate, so if it does it will be in the next few days.  I go back on the 19th with the SA and to get blood work to see if I did ovulate and if not why I'm not.  And after we get back the SA results she will start me on clomid as well.  Good Luck!  I know exactly how you feel!
