C-sections

it's looking like a c-section for me...

We tried an ECV yesterday, but it didn't work.  LO is just stubborn and will not flip around.  I told my OB today that I didn't really want a c/s but I know we don't always get what we want when it comes to pregnancy/babies.  My hospital will do breech vaginal deliveries and since this is #2 for me, I'm more likely to qualify and have a good delivery, but the risks just seem higher to me than doing a c/s and my baby's life is not something I'm going to gamble with.  I still have a week to make the final decision though.

For anyone who's had a c/s already, would you recommend that I schedule one or wait for labor and then have one??

Re: it's looking like a c-section for me...

  • If the risks seem higher with a breech birth, then I would schedule a c section. I wouldn't try for a breech birth, IMHO that would be scary. And you don't really want to end up with an emergency c sec if LO gets stuck or something. That would be so stressful. If LO won't flip in a week, then I would schedule the c sec.

I had a unplanned c sec after a 12ish hour labor and 3 hours of pushing. I was sleeping when my LO came out, I was so exhausted. That spinal made my day. Better to plan ahead so you actually know what is going on. HTH

  • My opinion is to schedule one.  Csection after laboring was horrible.  I'd rather have a planned section than an emergency one.  You can have more of your wishes met that way too.  I'm uncertain about trying a vbac for this very reason - I don't ever want an emergency csection again.

  • Do what feels right to you, but personally I'd try for a vaginal birth if my doctor is skilled at delivering vaginal breech babies.  Unfortunately many doctors aren't taught this skill anymore.  I would much rather NOT have to recover from a c-section.  Breech babies CAN be delivered vaginally.

  • I'd rather wait until I went into labor so I knew that baby was ready to be born.  Or if I were to schedule one, I'd schedule it for my due date, not 39w since that would have been 2-3 weeks "early" for myself and many of my friends who tend to gestate a little longer.

  • I think if I was in your shoes, I would schedule one. I agree that the risks are too great and I wouldn't want to gamble with my baby's life either. Scheduling one would probably be easiest. If you waited until you start labor you never know what can happen. Some labors go really fast, so it might be more of an emergency than if you scheduled one. But you should schedule it for after 39 weeks. That way the baby is pretty much developed fully. GL. C/S aren't so bad. I know I didn't want one either but when my cervix refused to dilate past 3, I ended up having to have one. Recovery was kind of difficult, but even that wasn't too bad.

  • I would def. schedule a C-Section. I'd be terrified to try a breech vaginal birth, too many risks I feel like.  Plus, like others have said, going into labor and then having a c-section is a whole different ballgame.  It is more draining and your body has gone through the "stress" of labor, making your c-section experience possibly a worse one.  I know this doesn't happen for everyone.

My DS was breech too, we didn't do a version because all I kept hearing about was the success rate was low on them, and my OB really didn't recommend it.  Yes, having a scheduled c-section is never ideal for anyone, but it really was NOT that bad.  I'd do it the same way again if I had to.

  • I would probably schedule a c/s, but as late as safely possible.

  • I'd probably schedule one but I would try Webster Technique. It's worked for me twice at 38/39 weeks. The webster technique realigns your pelvis so that baby has room to turn. If you can find a chiropractor that specializes in it, I'd at least give it a shot. I second waiting until due date to schedule c/s, who knows what will happen.
