We went to our birth prep class on Sunday (taught by a midwife at my doctors office). The midwife talked a little about a procedure called Versions done at the hospital to try to move the baby from a breech position to avoid a c-section. Has anyone heard of this or have any 2x mom's had this procedure? I thought it was interesting.
From web md, there is also more detail on the link below...

Before the version attempt, you may be given an injection of tocolytic medicine to relax the uterus and prevent uterine contractions. The most commonly used tocolytic medicine is terbutaline.
While the uterus is relaxed, your doctor will attempt to turn the fetus. With both hands on the surface of your abdomen-one by the fetus's head and the other by the buttocks-the doctor pushes and rolls the fetus to a head-down position. You will feel discomfort during a version procedure, especially if it causes the uterus to contract. The amount of discomfort depends on how sensitive your abdomen is and how hard the doctor presses on your abdomen during the version attempt. If your fetus appears to be in distress, as shown by a sudden drop in heart rate, the procedure is stopped.
Re: Another Breech Post
My midwife said that if at the u/s in 2 weeks he's still breech, they'll try this. I've heard that some places give an epidural while they are doing this so not to cause so much discomfort. Plus if it doesn't work, they'll do a c-section right away or induce if it does work. If your LO is breech try and make him/her flip before you have to resort to this, I've heard it's quite unpleasant.
There are other less aggressive things you can try, like the breech tilt, chiropractic and acupuncture.
I was breech with my son and breech with this one too. Sometimes they do not try versions because like PP said, the position of the placenta, like if it is anterior, or if you had a previous c-section due to higher risk of uterine rupture.
That being said I know 4 of my friends had breech babies, and only one of them had a sucessful version performed.
Believe me, I'm doing the breech tilt thing twice a day. Also I've been giving LO lots of pep-talks. (I figured it couldn't hurt.
)
I've been doing this too. I found this blog post to be really helpful in sorting out what kind of delivery we're comfortable with. I hope your lo (and mine) decide to flip!
