It wasn't so bad during the exam - mostly like a yearly gyn exam. And I hardly felt the strep B swab being done. But in the 4 hours since, I've been having pretty consistent Braxton Hicks with a side of backpain thrown in. Youza. Apparently my cervix did not appreciate the touching.
Re: First Internal
Noooo! I'm so not ready yet.
This is not something I want to hear, I have my first internal next week at 36 weeks.
This. I had one with my first pregnancy and it made me crampy and spotty after. I had an appointment today and she said they don't do them routinely but I could have one if I wanted... I declined!
You'll probably feel back to normal soon. :-)
In principle I agree with both of you. Not only are they not very good predictors of when labor might set in, internals are just an opportunity to introduce bacteria to a system that doesn't need any disruption at this stage.
However, I have GD and I'm trying my damnedest not to get risked out of my birth center. To avoid being transferred to the hospital, they want me to deliver by my due date. So, my midwife (who usually doesn't do internals until labor is well underway) wanted to get a baseline so that she could see how things were developing. She explained that understanding how I've progressed over the weeks will help her know as we get closer to my due date whether membrane stripping or other non-drug related induction methods will be effective.
