Re: Child Support

  • Be patient.  It can take three months for paperwork to go through.  It can also be a headache if he refuses to pay and they have to take other modes of action such as wage garnishment.

  • Yeah, it takes FOREVERRR so don't get your hopes up on seeing money anytime soon. I filed in August 2010 and in October 2011 we finally had court. He still hasn't paid, so he's 2 months behind now. Wage garnishment process will begin next month.

  • Thats what one of the workers told me. Im just worried that he's gonna deny paternity when he knows shes his. He thinks just because he's in a different state that he has no responsibility...... :(

  • per op's previous posts, they are not married and don't live together, so don't worry.  maybe he has some sense in him!

  • I filed with our county child support and we were notified of a meeting date 2 weeks later.  We were told what paperwork to bring.  It was on a Thursday, and the following Monday we received the calculation and monthly amount by mail.  Wage garnishment started 2 weeks after that.  So about a month from when I filed online, I received my 1st payment through the system.

I think ours went so smooth and fast because he had already been paying me faithfully (though half the amount) and we both brought ALL of the paperwork she needed to make the calculation. We didn't argue, and the mediator was in a good mood lol.
