Pink Eye Questions - Re: Back to School

Isaac's pink eye has improved so much since starting antibiotics.  Although we had a tough afternoon yesterday I am so glad we skipped nap and headed straight to the dr and CVS to get it resolved.  So, today he had a little crust but his eye is visibly swollen.  He has had no ooze from it at all so far today.  Does his eye need to appear all the way healed in order to return to school?  Or is 36 hrs of drops and no ooze enough even if its still a little puffy?  He will probably be OK in the morning, I just want to know your opinions on the situations and the WWYDs?

Just FYI, there was no way he would have gone today either way but he didn't have school anyway so luckily he hasn't had to miss yet.

  • For our school, it's 24 hours on antibotics and no fever for 24 hours.

  • Owen got it a few months ago. 24 hours of antibiotics was all that was required to return to class. I think as long as his eye isn't oozing tomorrow he should be good to go. Those eye drops work so fast, thank goodness!

pretty sure this is the rule at kclc too. I would send him as long as he isn't oozing and crusty.  Its the gunk that is contagious.
