When did you...

stop working?

I know it's been asked before but I'm trying to figure this out. I'm meeting with my assistant principal in a few weeks and I know he's going to want a date when I'll be out.

This is assuming you weren't put on bed rest and stopped working simply because you couldn't physically be on your feet anymore. How many weeks?

Re: When did you...

  • I started working at home at 32 weeks.  I commute into the city and I couldn't take it anymore especially with the heat in July.  I was able to keep working up until I delivered at 34 weeks.

  • I dropped to pt at 28 weeks and stopped completely at 33.

  • At 34 wks I asked OB to put me on modified bedrest to excuse me from work (but I still worked from home).  That week, my BP started spiking, and the following week I delivered due to preE.

  • I went on bedrest at 26w.

  • my OB told me from day one to expect to leave work between 24-28 weeks, even if all was going well - to avoid PTL.  My job has me on my feet a lot of the day (much like teaching- i used to teach)... and he didn't want me risking it.

I left work at 27w - it just worked out well with the end of the quarter... and took it easy the next 11 weeks before i had my c/s at 38w1d without any signs of labor.  I credit leaving work early for that - i had PTL with my singleton at 32w... and not having it with the twins was a shock, so I think taking it easy was the right move for me.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • Friday at 32w1d was my last day at work before going out on STD. I delivered at 32w 3d. I wish I would have stopped sooner because I thinking working full time at a high stress job (I'm a CPA and it was busy season) contributed to my preterm contractions and water breaking early.

  • I just left work this week as 90% of my job is on my feet and luckily I can take a personal leave and my boss will hold my job. Even though it will be a little tight financially we can handle it so why not get the heck out! haha I want to concentrate on growing these two as long as possible. So just taking it easy now.

  • I work for a family business so my situation is a little different, but I chose to start working from home at 26 weeks. I realistically could still be working (at 30 weeks) as long as I am sitting, but if i'm on my feet more than 30 minutes at a time i get really tired and tons of pressure. It all depends on if your doc puts you on bed rest or not too.

    Best of luck!

  • 35 weeks.  I was just so swollen and the 45 minute drive was torture.

  • What does your OB say? That may be more helpful in determining your own situation, but a lot can happen after 22w that you can't predict. Mine told me to be ready for bed rest @ 24w even with no complications, but I've been on since 20w, so it's hard to say how long you'll be able to work. It really varies. GL!

  • I was due August 25 (peak of summer, lucky me!) and I worked right up until the day before I delivered, August 3.  I was 36w6d.  I was feeling pretty sorry for myself right about then but I'm so glad I was able to work for that long.  Since I didn't have to use any sick leave or vacation for bedrest, I had 5 months saved up to take after the babies were born.  At every appointment, my doctor told me I wasn't having any issues so he was going to let me decide when it was time to quit working.  My only suggestion is - try to rest as much as possible after work and on the weekends.  That always helped me feel ready to start the next day.  Good luck!

  • i worked full time up until 30 weeks, then only went in for classes (i'm a professor).  i started some of my classes online at around 35 weeks and then had a scheduled induction at 37wks, 6days.

i was contracting by then, but only dilated 1 cm and 60% effaced.  the ankle swelling started around 36 weeks and was noticeable at 37 weeks!  my OB wanted me out of work at 28 weeks but i wasnt ready until about 35 wks.

  • I told my principal that I would work until 34 week as long as my ob says everything is ok. I got 3 tall directors chairs and have them p,aced around my room so I always have a place to sit.

  • I stopped at 28wks, I was just HUGE and phsyically couldnt do my job any longer. My OB said 28wks is usually the cut off for twins with working and I found that out the same week I had thrown in the towel at work so it helped me feel less gulity for it. I just stayed home tried to walk, eath healthy and ended up having  8lb and 5.5oz twins after being induced at 38wks3d
