Best credit card for earning points?

I don't know why this hasn't occurred to me sooner... our daycare accepts credit cards.  I'm sure we could rack up a ton of points by paying w/ a credit card and paying it off each month.  But which card is best?  I have Worldpoints right now but I think their rewards are pretty sucky.  And not skymiles either... we fly free.  Kind of a waste.  So is there some other card with a great points system?  Or maybe cash back?

Re: Best credit card for earning points?

  • I have a UPromise card..  I get money deposited into DD's 529 plan.  I think last year about $600 in her account just from using the card.  I'd rather have those small amounts from each transaction go to her education than to airline miles or other rewards.

  • We are about to switch our skymiles amex to costco amex. There is no fee for the card if you have costco membership and you get cash back. The only thing we use our skymiles for are gift cards and delta has cut way back on the gift cards they are offering now with skymiles. Plus we get more skymiles through the idine thing then we do through our credit card.

We also have a visa through BOA that has world points. We use this a lot too b/c we get gift cards to pay for christmas gifts each year with the points we get through out the year.  We pretty much pay for all of the boys gifts and family gifts with this

  • We have a delta amex that I use just to buy tickets with, since i think get free bags. Although not internationally, which I just found out (above the first free one) and am pissed about, but I digress.

We put everything we possibly can on our Chase Sapphire card and pay it off every month. It is part of the ultimate rewards program and is good. Chase also has no foreign transaction fees.

  • I love my Discover cash back card. They do 1% on everything and offer 5% on a bunch of other stuff that rotates monthly. My Amex also does cash back and I think they do 1.25% and after the first $6k they do 1.5% and then 5% on groceries and gas. I really should use that one more than I do.

  • We have a discover card which I love because you can actually get GCs with your cash back bonus that are more than what you pay. (like $20 for $25 GC, etc). I get those all the time to do gift shopping and there are lots of retailers that participate. Also, look into the Chase Freedom card. I got $200 cash just for spending like $1500 in 60 days. They also have cash back like discover but their rewards are dollar for dollar.
