Eating problem?

My DS is turning 2yrs this week. He was born at 35 weeks. For the past serveral weeks my son has not really been eating lately. He will eat some for breakfast but then not want to eat for the rest of the day. I am just wondering if I should be concerned about how he is eating. Also for the past couple weeks he has not been sleeping much at all. Any suggestions? Should I be concerned?

thanks

  • Talk to your ped if you are concerned, but it sounds like typical 2 year old behavior.  They become extremely picky around that age.

  • When he does eat he squints a lot. Like it is hurting to swallow. I know his GI specialist had told us that he is likely to develop a throat disease ( not remembering the name right now). He said he would probably have to have a surgery done. He told me a lot of babies that are born premature like Hayden and had to be intubated in addition to asthma and milk allergy end up with it. So that is why I am getting concerned. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

  • That sounds concerning.  Definitely visit the doctor regarding this issue

  • If he's fussy during the day or has a fever, I would take him to the pedi and suspect an infection or something.

Or, if his weight gain isn't on track, then obviously your pedi will raise concerns something else could be wrong.  Like GI-related. I haven't heard of what you are talking about.

If your gut says to worry I'd take him in for a weight check and run it by the pedi.

Otherwise, I'd say it's just normal toddler behavior.  They say 1 good meal every 3 days.
