Infertility

IVF 1= BFN

I realized that I never gave the final confirmation of that here. I got my beta yesterday and it was a negative. The lady who told me on the phone was so sweet and sympathetic, but I was unphased by it. I already knew that's what it would be and I feel like I already grieved that and accepted it a few days ago. We meet with our RE next week for our WTF and talk about doing the FET.

For our fresh cycle we had 2 day three embryos transferred into me. For our FET we'll have 1 day six blastocyst transferred into me. It seems like those are equally likely to work, since you get better odds with a day five or six embie, but there's only one being put back this time. What do you think?

Re: IVF 1= BFN

  • I'm so sorry to hear about the BFN. It sucks :(.

My clinic encourages eSETs on days five and six, as they say putting two excellent quality blasts in only increases your chance of twins, not your chance of pregnancy. Of course, all of that depends on embryo quality, age, diagnosis, and comfort level. But, I think you can have an excellent chance of success with a day six blast! Best of luck!!

  • I am so sorry (hugs). IF Sucks!!

Because I had my WTF already I will tell you a little about what they told me.

50% of all embryos are chromosomally abnormal. RE said that if they had transferred three instead of two (3dt as well) that we would not be facing a BFN.

FET are easier on your body than fresh cycles and implantation is easier as long as you do not have any underlying problems (embryo quality, lining etc).

That being said I have found that I had a mild case of OHSS (which they did not check me for before ET) when I triggered my E2 was 4500 which I have been told by my RE in town (not the RE where I had the IVF) that this can interfere with implantation and OHSS is not a factor during FET since you are not stimming.

GL!! When are you planning on cycling with your FET? Maybe we will be FET cycle buddies!

  • I'm sorry.  We are in the same boat right now (as you know).  I believe that yes, a day 6 embie has a better shot than a day 3, but I do believe the freezing can make the odds go down, so it may end up being about the same?  That's a good question for your RE at the WTF appt.  Good luck next week.

  • So sorry about the BFN :(  I'd talk with your RE about chances with the single blast.  While yes, a blast would have better odds of making it, my Dr stated our chances went down a bit with an FET, so it might be kind of even.
