C-Section Scheduled - Advice on prep time

We have our c-section scheduled for Dec 14. Any advice on things to bring during the prep time? They said I need to be there two hours early and I know most of the time we will be waiting around. I cannot believe our little girl will be here in a week.

Re: C-Section Scheduled - Advice on prep time

  • I didn't really need anything during prep time, it actually went by really fast.  We didn't bring in our bags until later b/c we didn't go to my pp room until later.  but dh did bring in the camera and our cell phones and went to the car after dd was born.

    congrats on your baby!!

  • Nothing is needed. They are going to ask you a million and two questions and then someone else is going to come in and ask you the same questions again. And then you get a IV line put in and someone else comes in and asks you the same million questions again. And you'll get examined, more of the same questions, maybe an u/s, more questions.

The 2 hours go by pretty fast.

  • My 2 hours went by super fast and there was pretty much someone in there at all times. The nurse went through paperwork and asked me a brunch of questions, set up my IV, cath then the epi was done, doctor came through.

Thank You! That was my plan also, with the bags. I was going to bring a small one in that had the camera, chargers, mp3 players, etc... Just a few small items.

  • Thank you all! I am glad the two hours goes by fast. I know with my previous surgeries everything seemed to drag on. I was thinking it might be the same way with the c-section.

  • Mine was an emergency, so I am just going off of the info my best friend shared:

She said that she brought a small DVD player and some videos, and she is so glad she did!  Although she was scheduled for 9:30am, (be there at 7:30am), one thing led to another and her timeslot kept getting pushed back for various reasons.  (ie: emergency c-sections, anesthesiologist called to another surgery, etc.)

Anyway ... as I said, she was scheduled for 9:30am, but did not have her daughter until just after 1:30am the following day!

I have heard similar stories from others. This is why I was thinking I might want to bring something; however, I did not know how offten this happens. Thank you for the information. I am going to at least bring my Mp3 player. I know all the rooms have TVs, so that will help if I get in that situation.

  • You don't need anything during prep time.  That time they are getting medical info from you, getting you admitted and getting your IV started with preop meds and such.
  • I just watched NCIS and talked with H and my bff.  Your mind won't be focused on what you're doing (but rather what is coming) so I wouldn't worry too much about bringing things to do.
