How much did you avoid lunchmeat while pg?

I tried not to have it very often while pg with DD. one of our favorite spots to eat at work is a sub place and my favorite is a club, loaded with various lunchmeats. My OB said it was fine in moderation (although it seems like if you have problems its a one-time thing, not a build up, so i'm not sure why) I'm pretty sure I'll be getting my club today. Am I a bad mom?

  • I didn't avoid it at all.  I think I ate at Quizno's 3+ times a week while I was pregnant!

  • I ate it all the time.  I just heated it up in the microwave.  When I'd get a Subway sandwhich I would ask them to microwave it.

  • Honestly?  I ate at subway practically every day.  BUT, I tended to get the grilled chicken sandwiches and not the deli meats.  They just tasted better to me.  But I didn't go completely out of my way to avoid deli meats...

    I also drink the occasional glass of wine, eat a piece of sushi if I feel so inclined, and all kinds of other pregnant lady sins.

  • I didn't avoid it...not even a little bit.
  • I don't think I had lunchmeat once when pg with Mia! This time I could see myself eating it every week. I'm already so relaxed this time and I hate it. I wish I could get back into my anal eating right, exercising, taking care of myself mode instead of eating everything that passes in front of my face!

  • I didn't eat it at all.  I read enough about it and decided that it was not worth the risk of getting listeria however small.  Like you said, having it in moderation doesn't really make sense.
  • I only ate it once.  I was at a family party, they only had deli trays, and I was starving.  I microwaved it until it steamed and "popped".

  • I didn't eat it at all.  Eating it in moderation makes no sense, you're right.  Either the piece you eat has listeria, or it doesn't.  I guess you cut down on the number of times you take that (very, very small) chance if you eat it less frequently, but it only takes one bad piece.  I'm not a big sandwich lover, so I didn't find it a hardship to give it up.  I still drink a bit of caffeine and eat some other "bad" foods, though.  Lunchmeat is just not on my list of things I love, so it was easy to cut out.

  • I never ate any deli meat/salads while pregnant.  Not worth the risk.
  • Not at all...in fact, I crave it during pregnancy.
