Baby Names

Thank God we're having a Boy! His name is...

Found out yesterday it's a Boy. So happy for many reasons but mostly because we were not finding any girls names we liked and I was already stressing about it. Wink

This little Mans name will be Lincoln. No middle name yet because we both want to use our Fathers names.

Of course I feel like I want to pass on something from my side of the family but he also wants to honor his dad too.

Lincoln Rex (his D)

Lincoln Harrison (my D)

Lincoln Rex-Harrison (double MN is that a big No No?)

As always thanks ladies for your input.

  • Rex Harrison was a fairly famous actor. So Rex-Harrison seems strange to me, and might to others.

Isn't this baby going to have his dad's last name?

  • Love Lincoln! I am a fan of Lincoln Rex or Lincoln Harrison, but probably not the combo name.  Was your daughter named after someone?  Maybe you could switch families based on that?  PS.  Love your pic, two beautiful ladies!
  • Lincoln Harrison. I agree with pp who said that the baby will have you DH's family name anyway. I say honouring your dad takes priority in this situation!

This oft-quoted reason seems odd to me. The dad's last name isn't just the dad's name. It's shared by many people. So it connects baby to many people without being a nod specifically to the dad. Using the dad's fn or mn is a much stronger tie to honoring the dad.

I also like the double middle name in this case.

  • I love Lincoln! We were team green, and that was my boy choice.

I like Lincoln Harrison if I had to chose. Rex just doesnt sound right to me. I automatically think dinosaur.

  • Rex Harrison played Henry Higgins in "My Fair Lady" both on stage and in the movie, not to mention many other productions. Unless you're trying to name him after Rex Harrison, I'd steer clear (the actor was popular enough IMO). I vote for Lincoln Harrison.

  • I really like Lincoln a lot!

Lincoln Harrison sounds best to me, but if you were to go with the two middle names, don't hyphenate them.

FWIW, I also thought of the actor Rex Harrison when I saw the names together but I don't think that's a reason not to use them both.

  • I like Lincoln Harrison or Lincoln Rex Harrison (with no hyphen).

  • I don't like Lincoln Harrison, because it's just way too presidential.

Lincoln Rex-Harrison definitely sounds like you're honoring the actor. He's really famous and I think a lot of people would think you're mega-fans.

So that leaves you with Lincoln Rex. That's my vote.

I agree with this. I'm actually kind of shocked by the number of people supporting the double middle name. Rex Harrison is really famous.

Personally, the idea of choosing one of our parents for a middle name, necessitating the exclusion of the other, is enough to make me want a different middle name entirely.

  • I like Rex Harrison and that is what Nikki Taylor just named her new son.

I think in this case, you can totally pull of the double middle name, but I would not hyphenate.

Rarely will his full name be on display so few people will make the Rex Harrison connection.

    And it passes my test...

  • Is there a reason you won't do Lincoln Harrison Rex LN, instead of Lincoln Rex Harrison LN.  I just think that it might not be quite as strong an association, with Dr. Doolittle, if the names are reversed.

  • If I have a son I want his middle name to be Michael- after MY dad, the way I look at it- he'll always have dh's dad's last name- I want him to have something forever from my side of the family.
  • I love Lincoln Harrison. Could live with the double too.
