3rd Trimester

Leap Year baby? If you have a choice...

...would you have a baby on Feb. 29?

I'm due on Feb 22nd, and since I had a c-section with my son, if I go overdue by a week, I'm going to have a c-section, which will be on Feb. 29th.  But my doctor is giving us a choice of either go with Feb. 29th, or the first couple of days of March.

What do you think?

  • No way would I wish a novelty birthday on my child...and this is coming from an April Fools baby who's parents thought it would be fun to name her April also.  ;)

  • If I had a choice, I wouldn't choose to have a leap year baby.

  • It doesn't really matter to me either way. I'm due March 3 with my 2nd LO so it's definitely a possibility for us!

  • No way - I think it sucks to only have a real birthday once every 4 years! My first was due March 4th and she was born in 2008 so another leap year and I was praying she would not be born Feb 29th! Luckily I had to be induced early so she was born Feb 21st and I never had to worry about it.

  • I am due the 26th and I would not plan it for that day but if it happens then I think it will be pretty neat.

  • I would have no problem with it. It's just another day. Honestly I think it would be kind of cool.

This! How often do you actually celebrate your birthday on the day? I really don't get this debate. It's what you (as the parent) make of it! Any day of the year could be crappy if the parent doesn't make it special!

Even if you don't celebrate on that day, don't you walk around and feel special on your birthday - just knowing it's your birthday. As a little kid it doesn't matter because they don't realize it but as they get older I don't think I would like it if it were me. And the OP said "if you have a choice" obviously it is what it is and if it would have happened it's ok, but given a choice I would not choose that.

  • I'd just rather have a March baby because it makes me think of Spring :)  I'm due March 2 and hope that I make it until March.  I can see how a leap year birthday would be cool though.

  • I wouldn't care either way.  If they would normally plan a section at 41 weeks and that is the day you are 41 weeks, then I see it as meant to be.

  • I am due Feb 20th and absolutely do not want a leap year baby.  I will be induced on the 27th if he has entered this world yet.

  • I am due on the 29th. I really want to have her a week or so early. DD #1 came 12 days early so I am hoping that her little sister follows that trend. I have a friend due on the 22nd who is hoping to have her little girl on leap year.

Actually at this point in my life, I'm more in denial that it's my birthday on my birthday.

Same here! I'm due 2/26... It really doesn't matter to me either way, a day is a day, and whatever it fell on i would make sure my LO felt special :)

We must have had very different experiences growing up! It mattered to me that I couldn't bring treats to school because my birthday was in the summer. So, I brought them on my half birthday. It was still a day for me to feel special. And, if my birthday is recognized at all I feel special, I don't go around being bummed if it happend on the day or not.

Doubt it - my birthday is christmas day.

  • NO.

    nononononononononono.

I'm due March 2 and avoiding labor on that day as much as I possibly can.  Who would want a birthday every few years? It's weird! You would have to celebrate your birthday on a day you weren't born. Dislike.
