Postpartum Depression

Seasonal depression and PPD?

I just had my baby 9 days ago and I'm finding that I break down and cry a lot for no reason at night. The daylight helps but since there is so little of it right now, the evenings are really hard for me.

We also just moved into a new house a week before I gave birth so I'm dealing with a lot of changes all at once. Anyone else experience this? I think if I had a summer baby I'd probably feel a lot better. It sucks not being able to go outside much because it's cold and dark.

Hoping it gets better soon

  • Some of what your feeling might be "baby blues" which can last a few weeks after birth. Your body has to adjust to the hormone changes again. I am always a bit more moody with dark gloomy weather, and a new home and neighborhood would be a big stresser for me as well.

Be aware of your mood swings and the crying. If it gets excessive, or it interferes with your bonding with baby and functioning in normal daily activity call your Dr. Obviously if you have harmful or suicidal thoughts get help asap o.k.? At least you are aware of how your are feeling already which is great, and will help you in the long run.

  • I went through this for the first few months after having our baby.  I would cry for no reason, usually while talking to my husband on the phone during his lunch break.  I associated it with hormones, lack of sleep, stress, and exhaustion, being a mama is hard work!  Once we got into more of a routine and back into things, it got a lot better, hang in there!
