Success after IF

If you had diarrhea before/in labor...

I thought for sure I was in labor last night - many regular, intense - and continuing to intensify - contractions.  I even called my parents at 2am to come over to watch Cal (not like we were ready to go to the hosp, but they live 45 mins away so I had to call ahead)...but by morning, things had slowed down.  I've had some random contrax since, but nothing to write home about.

Then a couple of hours ago, I had a random bout of diarrhea.  I know this can be a sing of impending labor.  Haven't had any since, but I keep getting that telltale wave of pain in my belly that I often get when I have diarrhea (anyone know what I mean)?  Sometimes it's accompanied by my uterus hardening, but not always.  I just can't decide if I am sick or if this is labor-related.  Geez, you'd think I was a novice here...

If you had diarrhea, did you have those waves of pain too?  They are nothing like any other contraction I've had (and exactly like what I often feel when I have diarrhea - just a lot farther up).  My body definitely "cleansed itself" when I was in early labor w/ Cal, but I never had actual diarrhea.

Re: If you had diarrhea before/in labor...

  • I had this before going into labor with my twins (it was preterm though, not sure if that makes a difference). I'd had an upset stomach and felt "off" the morning before I went into labor and just thought it was tummy problems (which I get pretty frequently) but by that evening I was in full blown labor and delivered them less than 24 hours later. Not the most heartening delivery story, I admit, but since delivery isn't a bad thing for you, could mean it's happening in the next 24 hours.

  • Yes, with DD I had diarrhea and the same sensation that you are talking about the day before I went into labor.  I had a similar experience to you - thought I was in labor, had my parents come over to watch DS (who also lived 45 min away), and then things stopped. Thankfully it was a weekend, so they took DS home with them in the am, I took a nap and then went into real labor a few hours later.  Once it started, it was quick - only 5 hours from when they started for real until DD was here.  But I had the diarrhea in the afternoon, before my "fake" contractions started.  I can't remember, but I may have had more the day of my delivery.

Good luck!  I hope it happens soon for you!

  • I was early with Gwen, and we think my water broke from an irritation, or infection, BUT once it broke, I did totally have to poop a lot, and it was not all solid! So, I think that it could be something. Also, the diarrhea could be contraction related as smooth muscle is involved in your bowels too and sometimes everything down yonder contracts.
  • I had a very short bout the morning I had N.  My contractions were just starting to get regular, and I remember about an hour of an upset stomach/cramping and running to the bathroom.

I totally think what you're experiencing is labor-related...if I were a betting man, I'd bet that the real deal is going to happen soon!

I had this with Graeme but the day before he arrived...contrax became more steady that night.
