Shooting @ Brodie and Slaughter

Does anyone have any information on this? I dropped Gracie off at my mom's in that area and Brodie was shut down completely. I figured it was an accident, but now I hear it was a shooting and the gunman is still out there.

ETA: Finally something on the Statesman

ETA#2: Another update on the Statesman. Bowie is on lockdown, but sounds like the suspect is barricaded in a home.

No other news being given anywhere. We dropped DD off at daycare on Brodie at 7 and then were stuck in horrible traffic, but Brodie was still open at the time. When we drove by the area there were about 20 cop cars and the helicopter and more cops were arriving every few minutes. Scary!

Yikes. My parents live down there and that's the way my mom would go to work, I'm assuming. Not many other ways out of shady hollow.

I guess I'm glad max is home sick today from MDO. He goes right next to Bowie. When I called to say he wasn't coming they didn't mention anything. That's really scary!

my boss lives over there and just called to say they shut down his neighborhood no in or out-- either he's getting out of work or it's still not under control.  KNowing him it's the later.

I'm pretty sure Gracie goes to the same school (T/Th) and that makes me uncomfortable. Especially since Bowie is closed down. I would expect them to take more precautions.

i live up the street on brodie and didn't hear anything until my sister called to check on us. i guess i'll be keeping up with the news like the rest of y'all.

I'm not a news watcher in the mornings either. The only reason I knew about it was b/c I was stuck on Brodie (south of the whole thing) for 25 mins before getting turned around and told it was shut down.

Here's an update.  Looks like there wasn't a 'shooting', although police did fire shots at the suspect when he tried to run them over with a stolen car.

Um, yeah.  So this morning I woke up to a helicopter flying really low and circling over my house every 3 minutes.  We just figured it was a wreck and the heli was a traffic cam.  I hadn't had coffee yet and that would be kinda typical.  DH was *pissed* bc it was flying so low and he'd been up most of the night.

DSS had to be at school early to take a test. We saw Brodie shut down (I live a block off and can see it from my window).   So I googled, and didn't find anything going on, and told him to ride his bike to dodge the traffic.  It's only about 4 blocks.

I saw him out the window hauling it back home. He didn't even get a block out before he heard the cops yelling over the megaphone or whatever "Come out with your hands up".  

So who was handing me Stepmother of the Year trophy?

I waited a few hours for the subd to open up, but it didn't so I went out the back way and left DSS at home (DH was there, too)- his school still wasn't open.  He just texted and he's there now, though.

Hahahaha. I'm sorry, I'm laughing so hard. Obviously, I'm glad he is okay! But can you imagine hearing that? Smart kid, turning around and coming home. I'm sure lots of kids would have tried to stick around and see what was going on.
