When can you get in a swimming pool?

How soon after a c-section were you allowed in a pool?  DS starts swim lessons on this coming Thursday, 5 weeks pp.  I'm not bleeding at all anymore so that aspect isn't a concern.  I'm going to ask my doctor on Monday but I wanted to get your opinions.

I would think you'd be fine, assuming it's a reputable place that keeps up with the pool chemicals.  My OB told me 8 weeks until I could take a BATH though, so I'm not sure.  I thought that was a little overkill though.

my GP (who is also my son's GP) said to wait until 3 months pp. But I also think that that's when the recommendation for LOs to starting going in pools is

I would think you would at least want to wait until your 6 week appointment to make sure everything is ok.  Just because bleeding has stopped doesn't necessarily mean everything is completely healed yet.

I was told that babies aren't allowed in pools (public pools like the YMCA) until 3 months.

I would wait until you're cleared at your six week appointment. Just because you're no longer bleeding doesn't necessarily mean you're healed. You could still be open to infection.

I know for here this is not true.  At least at the location we are looking at.  They have lessons that start when baby is 4 weeks old.  

The doctor actually cleared me for swimming.  He said that if I was a vaginal delivery he would wait the whole 6 weeks but since my once soon is healed I could go after 4 weeks.
