Hard Water - Charlie's Soap or Dropps??

I ordered charlie's soap from Amazon before I hard all the rave about how awesome dropps are when you have hard water.... Does charlie's soap do well with hard water also? Trying to decide if I should return it...? Also, the directions on the charlies soap says to do a large empty load before using it in laundry to remove residues from left behind detergent... Is this a must? We are planning on using this just for our CD and different stuff for our clothes & it sounds like a pain in the butt to have to do an extra empty load before we can wash our CD every time..?

TIA!!

  • I use Charlies on my clothes and find it cleans better than tide, it is actually cheaper too if you calculate out the cost per load.

  • i have very hard well water where i live & i use dropps for the diapers (scent & dye free) but i used to use them on my own clothes so i knew they'd work. they're so easy since you dont have to measure & as long as you use hot instead of cold wash (which i assume you'd be doing w/ your dipes) the pack dissolves completely. if you do your own clothes in cold sometimes it leaves a little slime on the door of my FL...

DH & I have very sensitive skin so we know LO will too so we are not taking the risk of charlie's esp since i was told by my local CD shop i would have to do all my laundry in it. I like being able to use method or 7th gen on our clothes... i plan on trying soap nuts if we have an issue w/ dropps since i've heard mixed reviews on rockngreen

Why do you have to do all your laundry in Charlie's? Plenty of people use a different soap for CD laundry, including me. I use Charlie's on LO's diapers (and it has worked great for him, despite him having super-sensitive skin) and we use All F&C on everything else. Sorry, but I think that retailer was just trying to sell you more detergent...

  • OP, I don't think any one soap works better for hard water. If your water is really hard, you may need Calgon w/whatever soap you use. I'd probably keep the Charlie 's and try it, but I'm biased since it's worked great for us. It definitely gets the dipes much cleaner than other soaps we've tried.
