Babies on the Brain

Does anyone here have an elliptical at home?

Preferrably one that is smallish and/or folds up?

Do you like it? Would you recommend it?  I need to do something and while we don't have a ton of room I would love to have something like this at home that I can use in the morning before the kids get up. I hatehatehate exercise videos so I rarely work out at home, but after talking to a coworker who has an old one in her apartment I thought this might be a good idea.  I figure in the long run it would be cheaper than joining a gym...

Re: Does anyone here have an elliptical at home?

  • My BFF has one in her bedroom and does about 20-25 minutes a day. She loves it, and has lost about 65 pounds since February. I'm not a fan because I'm not very well-coordinated, so I usually stick to workout videos. I do have to say that it burns a killer amount of calories, too.

  • We bought one off of Craigslist last year and it is nice to have because I can use it after DD goes to sleep and it is soooo much nicer then having to drive to the gym...especially in bad weather.

    I say get one.

  • DH and I want one (mainly me since it's difficult for me to get to the free gym on post -- no childcare -- and I refuse to pay a membership somewhere when we have state-of-the-art facilities right here).  I'm just worried about paying full price for one, and then not using it like I should, so we're waiting for the perfectly priced used one to fall into our laps.  LOL
  • Yes! We have a small one in our living room. I love it. I used to just get on it for a half hour TV show a few times a week. I'm going to have to start making time for it now that it's getting too cold to go on a walk every day.

It's a really nice, low impact way to get more activity into your schedule. I definitely recommend it.

  • I did..but I sold it as it became a clothing rack.

The mistake I made was buying a low to middle of the line quality elliptical rather than investing in a top of the line model.  Mine caused me alot of knee/hip discomfort when using it, and I found myself unable to last through an entire workout that would normal not even faze me at the gym.

On that note, I'd buy one again..but just spend the extra $ to get a really nice one

That's what I'm thinking I need to do.  I just need to convince DH that after a year or so it will pay for itself since I won't be paying gym dues.

Weslo. I'm pretty sure this is it: https://tinyurl.com/c35e7lz. I got it from my sister after it turned into a clothing rack for her.

  • We bought a used Nordictrack.  I still use it when I can't get to the gym.  It doesn't fold up, its in a corner of the bedroom.  I get bored with it and can't do it every day though
