Just got married in July and we've been TTC since May with no luck. Were 24 years old in good health etc.. My body pulled a mean prank last month on us. After having a consistant 30-35 day cycle since I came off the BC it decided to skip in Nov. I Was 20 days late- and wasnt pregnant.. This is the WORST thing to go through when all you really want is to become preganant! My GYN decieded to do an internal exam and diagnosed me with PCOS... I was told that i had this when i was 15 due to my infrequent periods.. but nothing was ever followed up on...so wasnt sure if i "truely" had it since the only other symptom i had was Acne. (what 15 year old girl doesnt have acne?!)
So steps are/were to take Provera for 5 days.. start my period then to take Clomid for 5 days...
I'd like to know what other ladies out there have tried this.. and what the success/failures you've all had... I dont know what to expect.. looking for some advice/guidance

Im soooo worried about the possibility of miscarring through any of my pregnancies having PCOS. Been doing alot of reading on it - and I know alot of even normal women experience them... but still its scary how much the chances go up for those with PCOS.
Good luck to you! Keep us posted!

Day 3 bloodwork (BW) can give you a clearer picture on what's going on. It's bloodwork taken on Day 3 of your period. I found this website helpful: https://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hormonelevels.html
HSG is a test where they put iodine in your tubes to see if they are clear.

Hello, sorry you are here. It sounds like you need to do a lot more research on this annoying curveball we call PCOS.
How did your doc diagnose you with PCOS by doing an internal exam?? An u/s?
Some ladies are diagnosed by b/w that shows insulin resistance, excess male horomones, plus a vaginal u/s that shows lots & lots of tiny unmature follicles.
As for me, my bloodwork always comes back totally normal, but I was classifed with PCOS because I do not ovulate or get a period on my own, and I have tons of tiny eggs/follicles that just sit there. So, I need help jumpstarting that. Metformin is a diabetic drug but shows great strides with PCOS, it helps me ovulate on my own! Thats why I am confused you were diagnosed that fast when you usually get semi normal cycles.
I would seriously recommend you see an RE or Reproductive Endocrinologist. OB/GYN's dont treat PCOS and will just send you home with Clomid without monitoring. I did this twice, and it didnt work because I was never even educated on how I know I ovulate, etc. An RE can further diagnose you, and they monitor you which helps ease the stress.
GL!
SO sorry- Again- newbie with the lingo...
yes diagnosed "offically" last week with Internal Ultrasound .
When i was younger and not on BCPs i had SEVERELY irregular periods.. would go 3-4 months without having one... then would have one for 2 weeks straight. My doc then put me on BCPs and obviously it regulated When i came off - everything was normal so i didnt think twice abotu it. Now I am thinking the hormones in the BCPs could have still been in my system making my periods fairly consistant...
I do have a follow up appointment with the doc 2 days after i take my last clomid pill...
I've also been thinking about switching Gyn's.. hes not a practicing OB any longer so i have to switch eventually any way.. and im not 100% a fan of him.. hes ok but now reading all of your posts that clomid isnt a drug to just throw around... im really thinking twice...

I could be wrong, but I thought it was PRETTY standard practice to try Metformin before switching right to Clomid? Both docs I went to told me that and most of what I have read on the Internet supports that...

I have PCOS and am on Metformin (which I've been on for years - it helps combat insulin resistance) and now am also on Clomid. The Clomid isn't working at all for me (not speeding up my cycles/ovulation) so next cycle I'll be moving to injectables.
Definitely get to a Reproductive Endocrinologist who can do all of the testing necessary to make some educated decisions about what strategy to take. Clomid is a serious drug and can have really unpleasant side effects - you can also only take it for about 6 cycles, so you want to make sure you make the most of them. Your RE will monitor you on Clomid which is important (OB-GYNs often don't) and can adjust your meds based on what he/she is seeing in the u/s and b/w tests.
