I saw you're going to be a SAHM. Was this your plan all along or did you decide once the bundle was born that you just couldn't stand to go back to work for the rest of your life?

Re: *camdenfaithful*

  • It definitely was not the plan all along.  While I was pregnant I saw coming back to work as something that just was going to happen and I was actually ok with it.  As soon as I had Lucy things changed almost instantly.  The thought of not only leaving her but coming back to a job that I could only tolerate on a good day made me sick to my stomach.

Everyone kept telling me that once I came back and got into a groove, I would be ok, but I just haven't found that to be true.  In addition to feeling like I don't get to spend really any time with DD, I'm totally overwhelmed by making sure everything else gets done around the house.  I realized my first week back that I just suck at the whole working mom thing so kudos to you ladies who can make it work.

DH saw how miserable I was and came up with a solution.  Yeah, we're going to have to cut back in some areas, but it's definitely doable and for our family, it's very much worth it.  I actually think DH might be more excited than I am.

I'll probably go back to work eventually, but for the foreseeable future I'll be a full time mommy.

  • I didn't think I had heard anything about you staying home before Lucy was born.

That is really exciting that you were able to find a way to make it work to stay home. I'm glad your DH is so supportive of you staying home and willing to make cut backs. While I may not be one of them, I know there are a lot of women who are working because they have to but would much prefer to be home with their kids.

So when are you stopping work? Right before Christmas?

  • Our office is closed for almost 2 weeks around Christmas and New Years and ideally I'd like for my last day to be our last day before break but get paid out for the rest of the year.  If they won't do that, my last day will probably be the first Friday in January.

I think if I actually liked my job it would be a lot easier coming back, but I'm painfully bored and just kind of tired of dealing with all the same BS that's been going on for the past 2 1/2 years.

  • *butting in* Your story sounds sooo similar to mine! My last day is the 13th and pretty much everything you said happened/is happening to us. Glad you get to SAH too! :)

  • I'm glad you guys(camden and AKBride) are happy to be staying home. We made the same decision. With us, it was also not really even feasible for me to work and for the whole check to go to childcare. I love being home with the kids. We have to cut on some things but it is great. If you guys want, I have a couple of mom groups you might like :)
