4 kids under 3.5!

Any advice on how to juggle all of them as a SAHM?

TIA!

Re: 4 kids under 3.5!

  • God bless you.  Get some help.  It's hard.  I left my babies with my mom for the last five days to take our oldest to Disney.  We go back to reality tomorrow morning.  I miss them terribly however, by early next week I know I'll need another vacation.

  • Congrats!! My twins were born just days after my oldest turned 3, so I've been there :). Although, it seems like so long ago now. My girls were both really good nappers, so I took advantage of naptime to bond with the twins. They were also good about entertaining each other, so in some ways it's easier than just having one toddler who might be more dependent on your attention. If you still want to be able to leave the house with all four, which I did a few times a week, invest in a good stroller and a good carrier that will work for a newborn or a toddler, so you always have options :)Honestly, the first year was a blur and I'm thankful that I keep a blog so I can look back on it. If you PM me I'll send you the link. Best wishes for healthy twins and your new adventure with four under four. We now have #5, so the experience wasn't too too bad ;)

  • Would you get a quad stroller? I saw some that fold up. I use my stroller regularly for Stroller Fit, and I hope I can still get out many times a week to keep my sanity. My almost 3 yr old still sits in the stroller regularly. I very seldomly let her get out and walk, and I think it may be the same once the twins come.  I am thinking it may be unrealistic to chase2 toddler around if I am trying to tend to tiny twins.

  • I'm right there with you!! My oldest just turned 3 when #4 was born this past september plus I have the twins who were 14 months at the time.  I am not a SAHM so I have no advice there but believe me when I say "you can do it." I was pretty nervous when I found out about #4 but I kept telling myself "what's one more kid"...lol.  It definitely has its moments especially since my 3 yr old DS is going through that terrible, terrible 3 stage of life but overall it hasn't been too bad.  As for a stroller, my older DS loves to walk and he has learned to follow the "go, stop" set of directions very well and very rarely runs ahead or out of sight. With the twins we actually use our wagon because its so much easier unless we are going somewhere for most of the day than we will use the stroller.  I did buy an attachment for my stroller that I can attach another stroller onto it, so if we do go out for the day, I can take our double and single strollers and attach them together, I haven't done it yet b/c usually my DH is with me when all of us go out.  Maybe you can get a triple with one of those ride on boards on the back for you older DD.

That was my thought, but I haven't been able to find one. Are you sure they make one?

  • I'm right there with you!  I have no advice, but I agree w/ pp about having a positive attitude and getting out.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do about a stroller, but I have to sell my triple because it won't fit in the car w/ a 4th carseat.  I hate that stroller anyway.

  • You can try to get a quad stroller. Foundations has one that I lusted after for a few months, but the truth is that it would have worked really well for maybe six months, and then it would have been too much stroller. It's a lot of money to spend on six months of strolling :). And, it's better to get the older ones used to obeying you when out, hanging on to little handles on the stroller, etc. Also, I've learned that parenting, no matter how many kids, but especially more than a few, is all about patience and, like the previous poster said, confidence! You can manage four under four! It will be hard the first year, but the rewards of having so many kids close in age can be awesome. Good luck!!

  • I have no advice since this will be me when the twins are born too! Just know your not alone! DD is 4 and DS will be 20 months around the time the babies are due. I wish you luck, and the best advice i've gotten is to breath and if need be walk away fr a minute until you are calm. :)
  • I have 4 kids under 4....its hard haha not going to lie.  My best advice is get a nanny or send the older two to some kind of half day pre school....thats the only way we make it over here! =)

  • My fourth was born two months after my twins turned 3.  It was hard, but totally manageable.  I did not have a quad stroller, because as a pp said, it would have been fine initally, but then after a few months my girls had no interest.  Since I went from 3 to 4 instead of 2 to 4 I did have the Valco with the toddler seat that I used, but I mostly used a regular Bob Double with my one year old and NB in that and then my two oldest walked.  We used the doggie backpack leashes (OMG I'm horrible to be leashing my kids.. lol) until they learned to stay with us, then they just walked beside me or by holding onto the stroller if we were somewhere busy.
  • no advice, but we'll be 4 under 2.5 once our triplets arrive....not gonna lie...it kind of freaks me out :-) But you're not alone.
