Ahh..don't flame me for this. I just made a batch of brownies with canola oil that expired a year ago. I didn't check the label until I ate a couple, when I noticed the taste was funny. My stomach hurts but I'm hoping this is all in my head. Anyone know what the worst case scenario would be from eating old oil? I figure if I don't get sick in the next 12 hours, I'll be okay.
Re: Expired Canola oil
I am hopeless in the kitchen, so I am not sure what to tell you, but I hope you feel okay and that it isn't a big issue.
I wanted to post because I noticed (I think?) that you changed the middle name of your little girl and I love it. It's my middle name and I think that it goes so well with Lydia!

I don't think it will hurt you other than tasting bad. There's actually almost no industry regulation on expiration dates of food in the US, so the date on the bottle doesn't prove whether the food is or isn't safe to eat. It's more important to pay attention to signs of spoilage like smell, puffed up packaging, mold, etc., and to practice safe food preparation and storage.
Here's an article on the topic I read recently: https://www.grist.org/food/2011-11-18-use-by-dates-a-myth-that-needs-busting
