I got pregnant during our 13th month of trying, after a few months of meds and our 2nd IUI. It was a long, stressful year, and my feeling like it was my "fault" put a strain on my marriage. I have to admit, a few of the replies to the "first try" thread rubbed me the wrong way :/

I didn't even open it. I knew it would bother me.

I didn't expect it to bother me, and some of the replies were along the lines of feeling bad because they weren't trying and know people who had been trying and unable to achieve pregnancy, but there were a handful who just seemed like they were boasting...and then there was one who was "LOL I GOT KNOCKED UP RIGHT AWAY WITHOUT EVEN THINKING ABOUT IT LOL" and actually said something like, "I'm very fertile, so..."

And that was when I got a little angry, which I find strange, because I wasn't one to really have much bitterness at all towards people who didn't have fertility issues while I was trying so hard and spending a lot of money to fix mine.

I tried all day not to read it or even come to this board as soon as I saw that subject, but I broke down and read it.  While I don't begrudge anyone getting pregnant easily and wouldn't wish infertility on my worst enemy, some of the posts do bother me.  Like when people say things like "I guess God wanted us to be parents and that's why we got pregnant right away".  Does that mean God doesn't want those of us who have trouble to be parents?   I find those kind of comments really hurtful.

    Yes

  • It took us exactly 1 year.  We conceived on our first anniversary.  :)  We had a CP in March and after that FF was all over the place and I was not showing signs of ovulation.  DH had an S/A that came back normal.  I had an HSG that was normal.  I started Clomid 8/11 and got my BFP in Sept.  I almost didn't test b/c I didn't expect anything the first few cycles.

During us trying a friend of mine got accidentally pregnant on BCP and didn't tell anyone till she was 16 weeks b/c she was so mad/upset.  I had a very hard time talking to her.  She has turned the corner and is very excited now, and now I am glad that I am in a place I can be excited for her.

  • We weren't trying but weren't doing anything to prevent pregnancy since DS was born. We were in the "if it happens it happens stage"... But we officially started trying, temping, taking OPK's, and I used soy isoflavones when DS was 11 months old. We got pregnant when he was 15 months old...

So I usually say it took us 4 cycles, but in reality we weren't NOT preventing. I was also extremely surprised that there were SO many who say it happened literally the time they started trying/got off BCP...

ETA: With DS, we weren't trying at the time either. I had just been diagnosed with PCOS and told I would need some type of help to get pregnant in the future. I stopped taking the BCP because I didn't see that it was necessary, and got pregnant right after. The doctor told me that the BCP helped decreased my cysts which caused me to ovulate. So because of that we just didn't protect ourselves knowing it probably wouldn't happen right away.

  • Trying for 11 months before a BFP...Oct-Jan was just letting things happen, and from Jan-Sept I was charting and doing all the crazy TTC stuff that goes along...I was getting scared since I was approaching the 1 year mark and nothing.
  • It took me a year and a half, then one miscarriage, then another 4 months.  2 years in total waiting for this little one.
  • I have been off bc so long that I forget exactly when I stopped but I know it was before we moved to Florida and we have been here since 2005, so at least 6 years we have not used anything. We decided last year to really try so we started seeing a RE and were diagnosed as unexplained, almost a year after seeing the RE we did our first IUI and we so incredibly blessed to have it work on the first try. IF is never easy.

  • It took us exactly a year.  We started trying in August 2010, aiming to be part of the 2 under 2 crowd.  Got pregnant in October, and lost it at 6 weeks.  Got pregnant again in March and discovered it was a missed m/c at 8 weeks.  Got this BFP in August 2011.  We were also planning on taking a break if it didn't happen that month.  I teach and didn't want to have to be out at the start of a school year, so we were going to wait, and then bam! We got our BFP the weekend before school started.  So thankful!

  • It took 22 months to get pregnant. We started seeing a fertility specialist in July 2011, had an SHG, and had a CP that cycle (it was our anniversary baby) before we were to start Clomid. We tried 25mg of Clomid just to see how my body would react and surprise surprise we got pregnant even with still ovulating later.

It honestly didn't surprise me that we had issues getting pregnant. All of my cousins and some of my aunts on my moms side have or had endometriosis and I was shocked to find out I was one of the lucky ones to not end up with it. I just ended up having low progesterone.

  • It took us about a year and half. I have PCOS and endometriosis and my husband was deployed twice in that time frame. So none of that helped in the baby-making department.

I think I win this one.  4 years with 2 very early / chemical losses in between.
I don't think anyone wants to win this one, but I'll give you a silver medal ;-). We were heading into our 7th year TTC #1 with 4 first tri losses behind us. We never took any TTC breaks other than during the failed pregnancies and immediately after. We had met with a Fertility Specialist and their financial counselor about setting up our IVF calendar 2 days before we were pregnant this time.

  • Ok this will be long but here it goes me and DH got together in 1998 and since I was told it would be next to impossible for me to get pregnant due to a severe PID infection when I was 17 we never used birth control. We got married in 2000 and finally in 2002 we welcomed our handsome little boy Grant. We started actively trying when he turned a year old in Oct 2003 and after five long heart breaking years conceived our beautiful daughter Avery in Dec 2008. Right after I got pregnant with her I had some severe cramping and bleeding and was so scared I would miscarry. It luckily stopped but not after causing some major stress. This year we actually started talking about actively trying for a third child but DH was not completely on board whatsoever. We conceived our third in June this year and after almost 7 glorious weeks of pregnancy I miscarried our little Love Bug. My doc told me we could start trying again after I had my first cycle. We both made the decision to actively try this time and got pregnant with the first cycle post miscarriage. I feel as though I am still recovering emotionally from the miscarriage and come Feb 18 (Love Bug's due date) it will be a truly bittersweet moment to know that without my poor Love Bug going to heaven this baby currently growing inside me would never had been conceived. So yes I have been at both ends of the spectrum struggling to TTC and conceiving on the first cycle but I have never given up hope and I think that is what got me through all those rough times.

  • Definitely no one wants to win this... but for me, just over 7 years total... and 2 1/2 years of fertility treatments.  Got the BFP when we decided it would be our last cycle for a few years because I went back to school.  Go figure.
