Gift for Preschool

I want to give a gift to Madison's class at preschool, but I can't decide if it's better to

a) Give them a gift card to some place like Michael's (so they can buy craft/art supplies etc) or to a book store.

or 

b) Pick a toy, book, art supplies myself

It's probably easier for everyone to do a gift card, then you don't have any worries about buying a duplicate, something they don't need/want ect.

You might ask the teacher for ideas but otherwise I would do a GC.

As a teacher, I love gift cards! I'd go with a book store gift card, myself.
