Late Term and Child Loss

S/O March of Dimes/March for Babies

What are you guys putting as your personal fund raising goal? How do you raise the money for this? Just ask people for donations?

Re: S/O March of Dimes/March for Babies

  • Our first year, our goal was $1,000. We raised nearly $3K!

We do a few things to get funds:

    1. Facebook badge and reminders

    2. Post walk BBQ at our house to celebrate the day

    3. Bunco night for the ladies. I ask them to bring price and $20 to play. All the proceeds go to MoD. Also, I have a couple friends that displayed some goods (purse/tupperware) on display. - 50% of proceeds went to MoD.

    4. Poker night for the guys. Again, $20 buy in - with gifts.

    5. My BFF's family has a winery. We do a wine tasting with an auction. People donate prices - proceeds go to MoD.

    6. My blog. I have my MoD badge on it. I blog about the event and ask for donations.

    7. Corporate contribution. I ask co-workers to be apart of the event and my company matches all donations.

    8. You can also ask local stores to support the cause with donation bars.

    9. We have custom Team Haleigh shirts made for all that walk with us. The local print shop charges me $5 per shirt. I sell them for $15 and 100% of the $15 goes to MoD.

In the beginning of our loss, we were talking about the same thing. We found a great playground on sale on craigslist and were going to buy and donate it to a local children't hospital in our daughter's name. If you swing this (pun intended), I think it is amazing!

  • The church has already raised close to 5k for it but I know they are expensive. :)
  • I set a low goal, but ended up raising a ton more.  The walk last year was pretty soon after I lost Adam, so I asked people to donate to March of Dimes when they asked what they could do for us.  (My dad's work gathered money for us, and it ended up being close to $400 that I donated!)  I also put the link to my page on my blog, with reminders here and there when I posted.  I don't think I'll be able to walk this year, since it's normally held in April/May, and I'm due May 1st, but I'm still gonna raise money.  I hope people are as enthusiastic as they were last year.  It's still important to me, no matter how many years pass after losing Adam.

  • First year my goal was $500 and we raised over 4k. I put requests out on my blog, facebook, and put a sign up sheet at work. My dad asked his co-workers and MH has his.

Last year I didn't really do much because I was so close to my c/s with Lucas. I raised close to $500

I plan on raising money this year, but I'm focusing on starting a little "book store" at the NICU for parents to take books to read to their babies.
