Johnson & Johnson or...?

I was wondering what everyone is planning on using for bath time... I don't think I trust J&J esp with all the recalls they have... including the chemicals they found in the bath products. What's everyones opinion and what are you planning on using?

Re: Johnson & Johnson or...?

  • J&J was so rough on DS' skin so we switched to Aveeno within a week.  Just the plain baby bath wash.  We've also used California Baby and Burt's Bees.  Aveeno is cheaper b/c I always have coupons :)
    * DS1...allergic to dairy, peanuts, eggs and turkey *

  • I don't think the problems with J&J is with all the bath products.

Either way we won't be using them b/c DD had a bad reaction to them and I am assuming DS will too. We will use Earth Mama Angel Baby at first b/c we have some but when we run out we will use California Baby b/c we can buy it easily at Target.

Both EMAB and CB have less chemicals than J&J.

  • We use California Baby.  DD has sensitive skin like her mama and Aveeno did not work for her.  We also tried Burt's Bees, which was OK, but the California Baby stuff seems to rinse off better and makes her hair shinier.  :)

  • My daughter also had bad reactions to J&J.  We used Aveeno on her for a while, but her skin never completely cleared up, so our pediatrician suggested using a bar of Dove Sensitive.  He said a bar is better for skin than liquids because liquids have detergents.  Her skin is not perfect, but it's much better now!  And we're spending less $ on her soap!

  • I also plan on using J&J. I have the naturals baby shampoo, and the lavender wash and lotion.

  • I buy all my facial and body products from a company called Arbonne... I don't know if its in the states at all? But it doesn't use any chemicals and is all natural. They have a baby line with baby oil, body wash, shampoo even bubble bath. They work great on me and I have super sensitive skin so that's what I'm going with.
  • It's the J&J Hair and Body wash that is the problem.  Look for products without Quaternium-15.

I switched DS1 to Arbonne Hair and Body Wash and use Up&Up (Target brand) Bubble Bath.

  • I use J&J Baby Wash--I heard there's a recall, but didn't pay much attention to it.  How does it affect LO negatively?

I will start using Target brand when I run out because of cost, but STILL have bottles of J&J from DD#1's baby showers!

Yes Arbonne is in the US, I used to be a consultant :)

I got some J&J Naturals stuff at my shower so we'll try that first, if LO has a reaction we'll try something else.

  • I love Arbonne Baby- it smells soooo good.

I will never use J&J products- just because they have not been recalled, does not mean that their baby products are safe:

  • We are planning to wash mostly with just water at the beginning but then I have purchased some California Baby from Target for times when he really needs to be washed.

Planning on trying out Burt's Bees to start, but I never really thought of using bar soap.  I had sensitive skin as a kid, and have been using Dove practically my whole life.  Maybe we'll just try that...

  • I'm still working through all the bath/lotion stuff we got at my DD's shower (2-1/2 years ago), which is a combination of Johnson&Johnson, Aveeno, and a few other things.  I also have some BabyGanics stuff that a friend of mine didn't end up needing (I'd bought them as a gift).
  • I am registered for Mustela and California Baby.
  • I've always used the J&J baby wash with no ill effects.  I'm planning to keep using it.

  • I ordered all Burt's Bees products.  I did get a J&J gift set at my shower, but haven't seen if it's the products that they say are bad.

  • We're going to use Burt's Bees as well.  I did a lot of research on their products when I was working toward an additional degree, and I really like not only their products, but the company is fantastic.  I'm going with the calming lotion because it has a nice lavender smell, and for the wash we'll go with unscented.  That reminds me that I actually need to get some... we only have a bottle of the lotion right now (cause I wanted to try it to make sure I liked the smell :))

  • It annoys me that J&J has cancer-causing chemicals in ANY of its products, even if it's just the washes and shampoos. It's ridiculous in this day and age, especially since it's only in the US versions (wasn't in any J&J stuff when we lived in the UK where DD was born)...as if US consumers just don't give a crap and such a large, rich company feels no need to be transparent. The more I looked into the ingredients in things I was using, the more I decided against using J&J and that type of stuff on my DD.

We use Yes to Carrots body wash/shampoo and bubble bath. The bubble bath is AMAZING and so bubbly, and DD loves it. All of it's 100% natural, and there is no petroleum, dyes, parabens, etc. It's not terribly expensive (we do Amazon subscribe and save) and the bottles seem to last forever even though DD bathes daily, since our 16-month-old has like no hair, and the bubble bath only take a single squirt to make a gazillion bubbles. We'll use the same products on the new baby.

  • We're planning on using California Baby unless baby Teddy has any problems with it. I don't feel comfortable using J&J or stuff with a lot of chemicals, so if we receive it as a present I will smile and thank them very kindly and then return it. I don't want to use it, but I'm not interested in making anybody feel bad.

I loveeee the Yes to Carrots line! I had the shampoo, conditioner, mask, and body lotion, but during my 1st trimester, the smell of ALL OF IT made me throw up in the shower. Literally. I still have it but just the smell makes me urpy :(
