Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Favorite baby feeding supplies (spoons, bibs, sippy, etc.)

We're just approaching 6 months and ready to begin solids.  I've been looking at feeding products and there are literally TONS of choices.

Can you recommend your favorite small bowls for feeding?  I'd like something that can be used for both serving and storing and isn't too large.

What bibs and spoons are your favorite?

Also, what is a good first sippy cup to try?

I'm planning on making my baby food and purchased the OXO freezing trays.  Any other recommendations for products relating to that are helpful, too.

  • I always use the take and toss bowls and the Munchkin white hot spoons (or the Gerber soft tipped spoons).  I highly recommend Bumpkin bibs.  They hold up really well and wipe off easily.  I have had the ones from DS and for my in home daycare for almost two years now.  I also usually start with the Munchkin soft spout handled sippys or the Nuby soft spout sippy cups.  I have yet to meet a baby who can't drink from them when they are ready.

  • My favorite items so far have been my Tommee Tippee bowls and weaning spoons.  I only bought them because they were on sale at BRU, but they are great.  The spoons are nice and soft on the end. DD loves to chew on them and it has started her attempts to feed herself.  Bumpkins bibs are the best for easy clean.   We are not at sippy cups just yet.

  • I like Tommee Tippees supplies. I bought the soft tip spoons, sippy cup for six months and three compartments bowls. I also have take and toss bowls for when we go out. I also like those bibs that are not cloth... kind of rubbery plastic I guess? I bought two for three dollars at Ikea last weekend.

  • Playtex soft spoons - they're narrow and fit in LOs mouth and flexible so good for scrapping up food from their chin - and Playtex sippy cups.

  • I love the little spoons with the rubber tips, I think I have gerber ones, but not sure. I use glass containers with snap on lids to defrost and serve the purees I've frozen in cubes. I found them at homesense, but I saw similar ones at walmart. I like that I don't need to worry about heating plastics.

We started my LO on the playtex sippy cups, and he figured them out right away.  The two handles make it easy for him to lift to his mouth himself.

Right now I'm just using the cloth bibs we've been given, but we have to wash them after each feeding.  Some heavier plastic ones probably will be a good idea for us soon. :)

  • I got the cheap ziplock bowls (the smallest size) for baby food. I make my own too, so I put a cube or two in the bowl the night before and it is ready to go in the morning. In case DH forgets to bring the bowl in from the car and it gets all gross, they are $2 for 6 bowls.

For making baby food I love my cheap $10 walmart chopper. It makes small enough batches that I don't feel like I will have too much food and it is easy to clean.

I like the gerber spoons. They were a gift, but I would buy them.
