Seriously at my wits end with my cat

I am not even joking right now. I have visions where I just open the door and let him just leave.

Everyone who meets this cat falls in love with it- the kids love the cat. He is VERY affectionate and sweet

but I hate the little f*cker. He meows NON STOP. I have clocked him once at a meow a second. All day long. All night long.

It makes being home (in constant ear shot of the cat) unbearable some days.

I have TRIED EVERYTHING-

Only thing I haven't tried was a behavioralist- for cats and a shock collar lol.

. I cannot bring myself to pay the money for a 'cat whisperer'. The cat has been to the vet- total clean bill of health. no problems. i have tried phermon sprays, a water gun, shaking a can of coins when he meows. etc.

I totally feel my patience slip away every time the damn cat meows-

Does anyone know any old people in PA that are deaf that want a great cat? lol He would make an awesome cat for a lonely senior.

He has always been vocal- but it has REALLY gotten increasingly worse the last 3yrs.

  • Is it an attention thing?  Does he still meow constantly when someone is petting or playing with him?

yup. he very rarely stops. He isn't hungry. He is given a ton of attention- he is wonderful with the kids- he would seriously allow both kids to sleep on top of him if they wanted to.

I seriously don't know how to make this work anymore.

  • I have no advice for the constant meowing, But I can tell you some traits of our previous feline that may make you feel better about yours. He was partially hairless, and required bathing every other day, or else the oils on his skin would attract dirt and stain everything he came in contact with. He never shut up. I think he has IBS because we had to change his litter box at least 2x a day. Vet couldn't find anything wrong, said it was part of his "rare breed."

I definitely thought that those myths about cats and milk were a bunch of shiit, but he tried to attack me when I was nursing my daughter. At first I thought he wanted attention and was a needy little thing despite all of our efforts to give him attention, until I woke up in the middle of the night to find the SOB trying to get under my shirt. This was the final straw. I was cruising Craigslist one day, and I saw an older couple had posted an add looking for a sphynx since theirs died and they were heart broken, the next day Linus was gone. I have never seen my husband so happy in my life. I was in the bedroom feeding dd, when the woman showed up to see the cat. I walked out and he was in her lap and I asked her if she liked Linus. My husband's response with the biggest effing grin on his face "I think you mean Luigi."

From time to time we get updates on "Luigi." The last one included a pic of him in a Winnebago traveling through the mountains of NC. I really feel your pain.

  • it became A LOT worse when I got pregnant with Gisele and it never got better.

Also- as soon as I got pregnant- he absolutely REFUSED to get along with my other cat. (at that point they lived together peacefully for 5+yrs) they couldn't be in the same room.

It was like something changed overnight when I was pregnant with this cat.

Stacy, if your name wasn't your bumpie screen name and if you didn't have kids I would swear you are my bff Jessica.  For some reason you remind me so much of her and that quote right there made me literally laugh out loud!  You never cease to put me in a good mood.

I have nothing to offer in advice. I really don't care for cats. Sorry!

  • Hi there. I am a lurker and occasional poster, but I just had to barge in on this one. I am currently living at my mom's (DH and I are stuck in the middle of moving since last march... ugh!). My mom has four cats. I have three. Which means there are now seven - seven! - cats living with us. And of course, although they coexist rather pacificaly, they have - quite understandably - taken to peeing all around. And we cannot use pheromones because my yougest sis is horribly allergic to them. So I have been considering prozac, because they (who is they?) say it works. I know it is disgusting of me but I just don't know what else to do! I mean, I have a 4mo baby here! If they pee on her stuff I just might snap! Plus, one of my mom's cats poops out of the litter box. Just outside the box. Nobody knows why, she just does. Always has. That means you have to watch the litter boxes constatly, otherwise the whole house starts smelling like kitty poop. Yuck.

    Vent over. Sorry about that.

  • I know it's very unpopular around here to suggest prozac for animals, but if my cat was meowing every second 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year I'd medicate in a heartbeat.  My cat is very vocal when he wants attention, and even that drives me bonkers.  I'd recommend looking into some sort of medication to calm him down.  Or rehome to a senior citizen who was possibly hard of hearing, lol!!
  • I have already asked my vet about prozac   (for the cat obviously lol) and he said it wouldn't help and wouldn 't prescribe it. I have kicked around the idea of getting a second opinion- but just haven't gotten there yet. I would happily medicate him with no guilty conscience.
