Any EPers Here?

I EBF and will be away from my LO for a few days. Although he has no problems taking a bottle, I am trying to get a better idea of how much milk to leave behind. For those that EP, can you please let me know how much you leave for your LO for each feeding? I assume that I should leave more for morning feedings than for afternoon.

I know that each child is different, but I just wanted to get some ideas.

Many thanks!

Re: Any EPers Here?

  • Right now, my LO drinks about 26 oz a day with all the food she gets, so that's about how much I would leave per day.But if you LO isn't doing much with solids, I'd leave more.

  • I pump for daycare (and nurse the rest - 1x morning, 2x evening). She eats 3 7oz (!!) bottles + solids at day care and has since she was 12 weeks (well, solids only since 6 mo). We've tried giving smaller bottles but she's wasn't having it. She's also always been pretty small for her age, so weight doesn't necessarily correlate with how much she eats. I can only pump about 4 oz per session, so I've had to pump 4x day plus 1x each day on the weekends to even come close to keeping up with her. I don't mean to scare you, but I think my child's a special case and wanted to give my input. :)

  • I would calculate how much she eats from a bottle (since all babies are different), multiply that by how many times she eats in a day, and then add enough for a couple of extra bottles just incase.

IE. Baby eats 3oz a serving.  Eats 10 times a day.  Leave 36oz a day.

    Hope that made sense.

If feeding solids I would leave twice as much that you normally give a day.

    Better safe than sorry.

This exactly!!!!! I had a nice stash in the freezer since I started pumping at 2 weeks and I had an oversupply. My supply has tanked to the point that it isn't even worth pumping. To make matters worse, I had to go on antibiotics and couldn't BF for 9 days!!!!! I completely chewed through my freezer stash and had to supplement with formula. Since I can't keep up with DS, I decided to start weening. I'm down to only BF first thing in the morning.
