car trip with 2 and 4 year old

Hi, Jumping over from baby boards for a quick question...My friend is taking a long car ride with her two boys, 2 and 4, and i wanted to give them a little going away present for the trip. any suggestions on what i can get that would be popular and car friendly.... and what shouldnt i get? obviously musical instruments on a 16 hour ride would be the end of our friendship :-)

    If they have a DVD player in their car you could get them a movie. I have 2 and 3.5yr old boys and we also do a travel size magna doodle for each of them and for the upcoming trip I am going to give them a Color Wonder kit (pad with pictures that comes with markers). We have a DVD player in our car and that is the best thing ever for long trips!
