Back story:
DS was over 11 pounds and I failed to progress. I had a very supportive team of midwives and the OB who stepped in was a lovely wonderful man. He broke my water, nothing. He started pitocin and after 15 hours and full strength drip, nothing. I didn't go past 4cm. So we ended up with a section. I was devastated, a poor emotional reaction but I really was upset. I was happy we tried, I was happy I went med free up until the section but I felt like I had failed. I do believe it kick started my PPD as well. That being said, I am past it and very very grateful that the Dr made the decision with us to perform a section and DS and I are safe and healthy.
DH and I are planning to start TTCing in mid summer 2012. I would really like to have avoid a section at all realistic costs. Since you ladies have had and are going through this experience, I wanted to ask, what are the "criteria" to qualify for a VBAC? I realize a lot of factors may come into play as well as logistics and where you live, but I was wondering what the overall consensus is.
TIA.
Re: Starting to consider TTC again and would prefer a VBAC
As you mentioned, the criteria varies from practice to practice. However, barring any other complications, one of the biggest ones is what type of incision you had.
Here's a summary of ACOG's statement: https://www.acog.org/from_home/publications/press_releases/nr07-21-10-1.cfm
I could see where having a very large baby could be a factor, but that would be the case whether you were a VBAC or not.
So basically there really shouldn't be much of a difference between a VBAC and FTM as far as how to proceed with delivery. I found that the biggest hurdle was the provider, hands down! I ended up with GD this time and I can only imagine what a nightmare it would have been if I stayed with my old midwife.
