My photography guru :)

I want to take an Xmas pic of my kiddos in front of our fireplace which has a glass front. What are some tips to get a great pic of the kids with the lit fireplace? I should light up the room and avoid the flash, right? I've started to read up on white balance but feel totally overwhelmed.

Any advice/tips?

    Hmmm...

I'd say my #1 tip/piece of advice is to get a few stuffed animals and try it with them first :)

I probably would set my camera to A mode and set your fstop as low as you can - then your shutter speed will automatically adjust to expose properly. You may be able to get away without using the flash - but it's hard to pull off inside. If you use the flash you could just make sure to stand back far enough so it's not hitting them so strongly in the face.

And if you have problems - email the photos to someone with photoshop (like me) :)

    GL!!
