Whats the best way...

To drink a protein shake? As a meal replacement or a snack? DH just bought a big container and I was curious for myself to begin using them. I am trying to lose 20 more pounds and I don't want it to make me gain weight.

  • I make protein smoothies after each of my workouts.  I think adding protein to smoothies is a great way to lose weight but I would sub those for breakfast or lunch.

  • I use it as breakfast normally (haven't while PG)...  Just put 4oz. of milk and 12oz. of water into a shaker, add the protein powder, shake it up and there it goes...

  • I drink it in the morning, as a smoothie. That is my whole breakfast. It was recommended by my nutritionist, as it is a full meal with the protein in it. I make it with fruit, milk, greek yogurt and whey protein. Hope that helps
  • make sure you get adequate exercise if you drink the shakes... they make you gain weight like crazy if you're not being physically active!  my doc made me drink them during pregnancy to gain weight.  it helped.  probably too much lol.

  • Eat 5-6 meals per day every 2-3 hours.  Use the protein shake as one of your meals.  I usually have a shake with some fruit in it or a veggie on the side before I workout.  Eating more frequently will boost your metabolism and help you lose weight.  They won't make you gain weight unless your total calorie intake for the day - calories burned during exercise = more than your BMR.
